Well, there was some serious talent in town this weekend, and with all of
the events going on, I had decided to go and check out Jay-J at Hot. I know
not many people know of his talents, but I wasn't going to pass up the
chance to hear him spin as he's probably the most talented producer/engineer
to come around in years, and I had heard good things of his DJ skills as
well...
The party was just minutes from my house, which is always nice, and was set
up with a nice sound system and minimal lighting. The outside area was setup
with a live graffiti show and some chairs to kick back in.. The only thing
missing from the party was the people. I didn't expect a packed party due to
everything going on that night, but I was pretty disappointed in our scene
when I saw how little support this party got. I know how hard it is to get
people out to your events, but this was a pretty solid lineup. It was around
midnight and there was only a handful of people in the place.. We decided to
go grab a bite to eat and come back later.
After grabbing some grub, we headed back right around 3am to check out
Jay-J. I was shocked again to see even fewer people in the event.. Jay-J
walked in right before us, settled in, and dropped a few records.. After a
few min, it was pretty apparent that the party was fading fast.. We were the
only ones left in the place, other than Andy and the rest of the crew..
Jay-J walked over and asked if we wanted him to keep playing, or if he
should just cut it.. We thanked him for coming out, but decided that he
should get to go home and chill for the night.. After the song ended, they
hit the lights and we ended up all kicking back and talking for a bit.. The
Hot crew (Andy V, etc) were all in good spirits considering how the night
went.. Jay-J was really understanding about the night, and said he'd be back
here soon enough.. Can't wait to hear what he has in store..
Thanks to Andy V, and the rest of the Hot crew for putting together such an
original lineup and for taking the risk to do something a little different..
You guys were great.
Zack
