so pal joey last night was definitely off the hook.  i haven't heard him
play before so i was a bit unsure of what to expect.  he proceeded to
give a little history lesson to the assembled crowd - dropping some old
school house, mixed in with some other more unconventional selections.

in any event, the music definitely got me off my feet, and i even tried
to dance for a little bit (sorry for anyone who had to witness that...)

i haven't heard anyone play 'can u feel it' at a party for quite some
time, so it was nice to hear that, especially after our recent
discussion re: larry heard.

some might say his mixing was a bit dodgy at times, but to them i send a
nice big 'who freakin' cares'! i can hear djs mix smoothly any night of
the week, but how often do they get me off my lazy ass?  not very often.
i'll take someone who plays interesting music that i've never heard
before, and who takes risks in their mixing over someone with technical
chops any day.

it is nice when you find that rare person who can do both well of
course....
