i enjoyed this as well. i will say that both the last time i heard him
at deep (at the viper room IIRC) and the time i heard him in miami were
a bit better, but that isn't a negative comment really since both of
those sets were sick. i guess i was surprised to hear him play so
banging.... i kind of like it when i plays a bit more esoteric stuff or
at least sticks some of it in. he was def. banging it out last night,
and playing a lot of vocal stuff.
i was happy when he played pepe bradock's 'burning'.... brought back
memories of the wax party in miami a couple years ago.
overall i was pretty impressed, and he played a couple tracks that were
really dope (one or two of them on cd). his mixing wasn't perfect, but
was well within the realm of acceptibility from my perspective.
it's funny because the first several times i was supposed to hear him (a
good 5 years ago or so) he didn't show up. car broke down one time,
etc. etc. however every time i HAVE heard him (and i think the first
time wasn't until the wax party in miami) i have been quite impressed.
i don't usually go to deep, but i think i may have to schedule a return
visit next week since i just noticed that ron trent! is playing.
i'm not sure how well he plays now, but ron trent was / is responsible
for some very sick production work, both solo and with chez damier, most
notably on the now mostly defunct perscription records.
