Damn this was a good week so I figured I'd join the club and write a quick
little review.

Friday: Heard Freethinking had a dope surprise guest from my hometown
Chicago. I was at more so I couldn't make it, but I heard it went off. At
more, Neil Aline rocked it [see the Scoring The Clubs section of this week's
LA Weekly (also online at www.laweekly.com) for details]. Great night.

Saturday. This was the crazy day...parties everywhere. Decided to limit
myself to 2 clubs. Hit Organic Soul at Voodoo first to support some friends
that help promote. Voodoo is the cheesiest venue I know....but it's so
over-the-top cheesy that it works...rock walls, waterfalls, vip rooms
overlooking the dancefloor, dj booth in the mouth of a "skull" on the wall -
sounds stupid, but I dig that space.

Anyway, got there with my friend around 11:30pm - saw Kimmee outside : ) she
greeted us nicely...no problems with the list and friendly security.

Went inside....not a big crowd - but for their first night it was a good
turnout (especially considering it was 4/20...a night that hosted at least 10
good parties that I knew about) - Gerry Meraz (producer of the show
Powertools on Power106) was just finishing his set...wish I woulda got there
earlier cause from what I heard Gerry was rockin it (deep and funky).

Next up was Wally Callerio who also got down - he took a few risks in the
beginning that thinned out the floor for a minute...but ya gotta respect
that...someone's gotta take chances and test out new stuff. Within a few
minutes though he had everyone back out and sweating. I didn't wanna
leave...neither did my friend....she was feelin the place too - I'll
definitely check out this night again.

Had to support Dwayne, Jamie, Lance, Cade and the rest of the heads
though..........so off to Dynagroove.

Dynagroove: Easy parking, friendly security again, and no list hassels
(thanks Cade). Walked in and immediately saw lots of friends (always
nice)...went over and said my hellos to Dwayne who was workin the crowd. I
was really happy to see that Dynagroove hired Soundfactory to provide the
Sound....easily the best company I've come across in LA....loud and
clean....they're not cheap though, so respect to Dynagroove for not skimpin
on the sound.

Also popped over and saw Jamie Thinnes (Seasons) gettin down in the second
room. Couldn't decide who I liked better, and they're both friends, so I
bounced back and forth all night between Dwayne and Jamie. Dope music all
night.

I stayed til the lights came on....said my goodbyes....and helped Diz take
his record bags to the car.

Overall, it was a really good night....that was my first Dynagroove party and
I was impressed. (Oh ya, before I forget - $2 waters...dope...it was hot as
hell and it would've been real easy to overcharge on the water...but they
didn't - I was so happy about that I must've spent about $40 buying waters
for everyone. respect to Dynagroove for not getting greedy.)

Sunday: This was the one that put me over the top. Matty Heilbronn at DEEP.
DEEP is always the spot on Sunday. Nice to see them get Matty - I haven't
seen Matty since he played at more last year...he's definitely a talented DJ
and producer (productions for some of the best labels in house, including
King Street, Chez, and Wave) but not a lot of people out here know his
name....so props to Marques for not worrying about a hugely famous DJ and
just booking someone with great talent. (And don't get me wrong, Matty is
definitely BIG, just not nearly as common a name as Mark Farina, Migs,
Feliciano, Vega, Knuckles, or any of the usual names Marques brings out.)

Anyway, Matty dug deep in the crates...he pulled out some old Wharehouse,
Paradise Garage, Music Box classics and played them with love. I sweat my
ass off that night.

Shit, gotta jet...just remembered I'm late for something: respect to Neli
Aline for rocking more; Everyone at Dynagroove; Cade. Dwayne, Jamie Thinnes,
Lance Desardi, Cocoe, JT Donaldson, Annie, Wendy, Nicole, Jennifer, Ginette
and everyone else that made Dynagroove fun for me; Kimmee, Fawn, Jimmy, and
everyone at Organic Soul for the love. - damn good weekend.

Late,

scott k.
