Only problem with this is that (legitimate) email promotion (for the
most part) only gets you in contact with people you already know and /
or who already know about you (sending emails to people who haven't
requested them will get you on the bad side of people such as myself).

Lists like this one are nice, but only get the word out to a certain
group of people.

Good word of mouth is obviously the best way to get people to an event,
but I think flyers are an effective mechanism for promoting underground
events. I will certainly check out flyers in record stores or whatever.
However putting flyers on cars, or handing them to people who don't want
them is just plain rude...

I've always found that it's better to give out fewer flyers, but to
actually talk to people when you're giving them out. This isn't easy for
me since I'm not a particularly social person, but when you're throwing
an event, it's a good way to get people excited about it.
