Hi....
Just a few answers to your questions.......The Tribe Called Quest song is
"Oh My God" off of Midnight Marauders!!! (One of my favorite trax!)
The Me Myself and I original sample is by Funkadelic Parlament "Knee
Deep"..........The two guys wearing the glasses are Raz & Alland (Dope
mixers and supa' dupa' cool guys!).......The guy who played the Night
Crawlers "Push That Feeling" horn was me = ).....I was mixin' with
Theory....................Sounds like you had some fun that night!!! I
wanted to go to Bossanova on Friday but couldn't make it......Have you found
out who that first DJ was??????
ciao! = P

>So... Friday night hit up the Mushroom Jazz 4 tour @ the Zanzibar. I
>remember going to this club before and I didn't really like it b/c 1.
>shitty sound system, 2. small club, 3. uh Santa Monica people (this crowd
>just doesn't really float my boat). Despite all that, I was on a mission
>to see Farina b/c I'm going to marry him regardless what anyone says. ;)
>And my oh my... this man rocked it and had me at hello. I don't think I've
>ever seen him play that well in LA...
>
>Got there early, the first dj was WHACK... not to be mean, but really, it
>just wasn't good and I wasn't feeling it. I thought Jason Bentley was
>supposed to open, but it obviously wasn't Bentley. Anyway, Farina finally
>came on around 11:30, started off with some Mushroom Jazz... threw down
>some TRACKS, some ol skool Brand Nubian track into a track from the MJ4 cd
>(I think track #3 if I remember correctly- sorry I'm REALLY bad w/names of
>tracks :P), then mixed it into some Tribe- "I like my beats harder than 2
>day ol shit say omg, yes OMG!" (fawk, forgot the name of that one too, sue
>ME!) and just had me going... played mushroom jazz for about an hour and a
>half, then went into some house- and threw it down lovely. He threw the
>original track that was sampled for "Me, Myself, and I" by De La Soul and
>the crowd went nuts... I was thoroughly impressed. But not impressed by
>the crowd... since we were chillin towards the front majority of the night,
>I refused to move b/c of course it was packed, and the sound didn't sound
>too bad from where we were... but yeah no more parties at the Zanzibar
>although Farina was worth it.
>
>Saturday night, with a shitload of parties to choose from, and plenty of
>cheap ones... decided to hit up the Echo and might I say, that's a nice
>little spot with a KICKIN sound system. We only stayed for a little bit
>b/c we had to meet up with the other half of our group at another party...
>but whoever was playing before Theory was rockin it, and I think Raz?
>(someone w/glasses). Nice selection of tracks. And whoever threw down the
>instrumental to "Push the Feelin On" by Nightcrawlers- you made my night!
>Bounced, then attempted to check out Basic Beats @ the Garage... but I
>guess they closed it down b/c the bar wasn't making enough money or
>something? Then went to that $5 party at Studio 56, wasn't really feeling
>that one.
>
>And the streets of Hollywood were hella flooded b/c one of the water lines
>were broken after. We were eating at Benitos and Santa Monica was
>FLOODED!!! Anyone have reviews on KOT or Jay-J?

>>This was a really nice weekend out in the LA. Friday I had to stay >home.
>>Got a GRIP of sleep and tried not to think about what I was missing...
>>Saturday night, we were on the flyer mission so only could stay at >each
>>stop
>long enough to spread the word and mosey on...started out at the echo. I
>could tell that was gonna be a fresh night...I mean, no strings attached,
>free entry...sweet spot, loud sound (you know if theory is there, it's
>going
>to be loud ;) )
>Two by four with the homies...a great and eclectic track
>selection...dancin'. I'm happy to hear it went off, and looking forward to
>anything upcoming.
>After that we went to the fresco party at...studio 56?!?!
>That was a surprise, and also very good feeling cuz I've had so much fun at
>that spot when we did electric over the summer. We walked in, through a
>small outside crowd to the main room where fresco was just finishing up
>their live performance...instantly locked eyes with whoever homey on the
>keys was cuz he was just a rockin it nicely...same with doron on the
>saxaphone...heavens to betsy, some REALLY REALLY good music from these
>cats.
>The crowd was nice and ravey, definitely some partying going on and a good
>dancin' crowd...had a few drinks and headed out to hit up love and
>happiness...nice spot, thin crowd, but some good tracks being played by
>eddie dub (I think)
>We kicked it in the warm, yummy smelling dance area for a bit, until our
>thirst won out and we were done passing flyers...
>At this point, hollywood completely flooded...sunset was buried beneath two
>feet of water and there were friggin COUCH CUSHIONS floating down the
>street...this seriously impeded us and we had to miss the kings of tomorrow
>(wah) and the thing at king king...
>Anyone know what the hell happened? There was no way that sorry excuse for
>a
>rainstorm caused all that...I mean it was like spittle...
>But this brings us to Sunday...and DEEP. If you were at deep last night,
>you
>know what I'm talking about...the perfect way to end a weekend. Got there
>early to get in for cheap, and just rested up...waiting for the man.
>The crowd trickled in...marques heated it up, I just kinda chilled to
>conserve energy...LLV got on early...like nine thirty or so, and just blew
>me to bits until I had to leave at midnight...it went from hardly crowded
>to
>packed in a matter of hours...people were there to dance, and they
>did...babypowdered floor, whoopin' and hollerin' and hand wavin'...real
>honest to goodness unity through music and movement...redemption in
>sound...I just had to write a letter...
>to louie:
>i would like to thank you for continually rocking me to heaven and back
>every time i'm graced with the chance to come dance at an event you're
>booked at here in los angeles. last night at deep was the top, and i expect
>that i'll reach that if not surpass it the next time i'm able to make it
>out
>to see you. i would say that i don't know how you do it, or even what the
>heck you do up there, but that i just hope you keep doing it...and often.
>there were moments last night where i was giggling and dancing so
>ecstatically and joyfully...then when you dropped that second version of
>diamond life, i felt like i might cry, but didn't wanna worry anyone on the
>floor who was feelin' it...i made a point to be completely clearheaded, if
>not a little tired, last night so i could really listen and feel where you
>were at...had to leave at midnight, but was so touched, so peaceful, so
>content and inspired.
>your music, and the people that come out to share it, restores my faith and
>hope in the world, especially now at a time where i often find myself
>afraid
>and at a loss...fighting, war, anger, bitterness...it's apparent in every
>place i look...while i was dancing i was concentrating on trying to bring
>the rest of the world there with us...to share the feeling i get when i'm
>dancing to one of your sets...
>i know you have to hear this a lot, and you so fucking deserve it. watching
>you rock that eq, watching your face...the expression so solid, so intent,
>you came there to move us...and you did.
>moved even still, and just had to tell you so...
>becky*
>I can only hope to bring that kind of feeling to events I am a part
>of...hope to see all of you at GRAVITY...bringin' it down to earth and
>together...to make a difference. To celebrate.
