Um, yeah, I neglected to mention that the night I went to the club that was
like Free Thinking the DJ was so horrible that I thought I was going to get
an aneurysm! Check this out, the DJ would stand up there and wait until the
very last second to find a record and then simply crossfade into the next
song, not even ATTEMPT to mix the songs. So, as an amendment to my previous
email where I made it sounds like Australia is soo ahead of the House-times,
they may play house everywhere, but they CAN'T mix it the way we do here!

Hawaiia mixes well though I must say. I met some really cool DJs out there
and I think I met Waikiki's version of Cade. He was cool, gave me some free
CDs that rocked. Ahhhh, just like home!

Hey People,

This email is outrageously overdue, but I'm sending it anyway because I
doubt anything has changed since I got back.

Simply put, House music is ALIVE in Hawaii and Australia and the talent out
there is really quite surprising! I was on Oahu for a week and the selection
of house venues is unreal for such a small city/island. I hit up a club
called Maze on a Friday night and it rocked some juicy shit, and THREE rooms
of it, no less. And I had options of other places to go to as well. The
people out there said that house is really big out there. (But so is
bird-call-y R&B, which is disturbing for me.) But I was pleasantly surprised
to hear how respected house was out there.

And then I went to Australia and not only do they do everything a little
differently down there, they do everything a little differently down there!
HOUSE WAS EVERYWHERE! In the public restrooms, in the supermarkets, in
Mac'ers (McDonalds)! Everywhere! I cannot tell you how many times I heard
them play Tim Delux' "It Just Wont Do" and other dope tracks. And when I
busted out my CDs from my favorite LA, et all, DJs my friends (who are
Aussie locals) would scoff at how "old" a lot of the songs were. I'm not
going to name any names of who these artists/DJs are that I played, but
let's just say they're very respected within our house community!) There are
at least 3 house radio stations in the major cities and it's tough to name a
club that doesn't play house for at least two nights of the week. I know
that all the bars I went to which was all up and down from Melbourne to
Cairns had house playing. It was soo great. I never found myself getting
annoyed with crappy "techno" or more fucken disco. (Disclaimer: there is
nothing wrong with techno or disco, as long as it's in moderate doses.)

Oh, and the best part was that my last night in Surfer's Paradise
(Queensland) I wandered outside a club (amazingly resembling  Free Thinking)
and there was a freakin outdoor massive happening on the beach in the city!
In the city, in plain view of everyone and everything, People! Think Miami
beach with a massive on the main beach! There were a few cops, but for the
most part the rave was being put on by the city for the newly graduated
students! We're talkin loud bumpin system, laser show, free and open to all,
waters and red bulls sold everywhere and happy hardcore on the beach. (Yeah,
it's a rave remember?) And also keep in mind that the legal drinking age
there is 18, so there were kids partying, but in a cool, semi-responsible
manner. Could you imagine Venice High School putting on a rave on the beach
for their graduating class? Dare to dream.

It's a different world over there, and a beautiful one at that. I'm not
saying it's better than America overall, by far. I'm just letting you know
that if you head down under, your house music needs will be fulfilled
without fail. Kinda gives some perspective to the lame bust at Circus last
weekend.
