wow, first off, I have to say that I was really surprised and impressed
with Jonra's email, still a part of me wonders just how much of it is
sincere.. but hey, it's a new year, and I'm all for looking at things with
open eyes and an open mind..hopefully others will do the same.

It seems like most of us are on the same page here, tired of the
negativity, the hard looks and bad attitudes, the shit talking, and the
fact that OUR city (LA) is/has gotten a bad reputation for being 'stale'
and 'snobby'. I know first hand how hard it is to do parties in LA, and I
know that even if your party comes off a bit lackluster or attendance is
poor, it still takes a lot of effort to put together, and the last thing
anyone wants to hear afterwards is what a shitty job they've done.
Constructive criticism is a wonderful thing, but when not thought through
first, your criticism can be taken as an attack/insult in a matter of
seconds.. This is probably what fuels most of the negative comments that
pass through the list every week.

This past year (2001), we (vinyltribe) met more of the people in the 'house
scene' than any previous year, and some good contacts/friendships were the
result of this.. however, it still seems like everyone in LA has beef with
someone else who's involved in the same scene, and eventually it all breaks
down into little cliques, which ends up to just be bullshit, because that's
when the negativity starts again. We've always tried to stay neutral and do
what we think is right for ourselves which has turned out great for us. We
might not be the biggest and best crew in LA, or the most popular for that
matter, but we know that we've stayed true to our beliefs and that's all
that we can do.

It seems to me that we're all on the right track for 2002 to start the year
off by making a concious effort to rise above the bullshit and negativity
and try to collectively make sure that LA has the respect it deserves as
being one of the biggest mecca's of dance music around. There's so much
talent in LA (both established as well as upcoming) and it'd be a shame to
lose it. Hopefully this year we will see our scene gain respect if we all
make the effort to get over the hater bullshit and start helping each other
out. Seems simple enough...

Here's to making it happen.
