DJ Deep, Scott K at Betty Ford at Ultra Suede. 
"Today, the spirit of house has been ruined," says French four-to-the-floor 
connoisseur DJ Deep. "Everybody thinks he’s a DJ. There are DJs in Coca-Cola 
adverts. That’s ridiculous, and it’s bad for the movement." Thing is, every 
time a jock opens his mouth, it just sounds plain stupid. Of course everyone 
thinks he’s a DJ — ‘cause it’s mighty easy to be one. In all fairness, 
though, not as good a one as Deep, the man behind the absolutely divine 
Respect Is Burning compilation series. Last year, Deep dropped Respect to DJ 
Deep, featuring a nude ‘n’ sweaty canvas of jazzy house, soulful garage and 
Afro-funk, thus putting fellow French funkster Dimitri of Paris on notice. DJ 
Deep, like Dimitri, has high respect for disco-soul, leaning more toward a 
brutal dance-floor workout (hollerin’ divas in tow) than the 
midtempo-funk-brushed instrumental shit so popular among rhythm-challenged 
urban folk nowadays. Deep will be helped out by local spinster Scott K. of

In the late 80s Dj deep started to really  get  into House Music , 

discovering the now classsics productions from Chicago Legends such as Larry 

Heard (Mr Fingers) , Marshall Jefferson etcÖ , as well as the Hip Hop 

influenced early productions of House Maestros such as Todd Terry (his 

production of Jungle brother ´†iíll house you†ª was a rÈvÈlation†!) , and the

 amazing and futuristic sounds of Detroit Pioneers such as Derrick May , Juan 

Atkins,  Kevin Saunderson or Carl Craig etcÖ


He started to Dj in small gay clubs , thanks to his friend Laurent Garnier 

who was the first to give him a chance to play out , and then invited him as 

a resident DJ for the Legendary ´†Zoo†ª ´†OZ†ª and ´†Wake up†ª (@ the rex 

club†) parties in Paris


His international carreer started soon after , playing all around Europe 

Ministry of Sound (London) , Sir henrys (Cork) , Robert Johnson (frankfurt) , 

Fuse (Brussels) etcÖ And in the mid 90s†: Yellow (Tokyo) , Zouk (Singapour) , 

Naked music parties (San Francisco) etcÖ touring in Autralia , and in the 

states (Twilo NY , Chicago etcÖ) for his ´†respect to dj deep†ª mix cd and 


Dj Deep is known for his musical integrity , for him House Music is made of 

Fusion , and has influences diverses as Jazz , Disco , Electronic or African 

music  . His leitmotiv as a Dj is to stay true to the original spirit of 

House , he never compromises , and insist on playing the la test upfront 

grooves and still stay true to the roots of the music he loves so much  by 

including classiques to his sets.
