As I announced almost 2 months ago now that I'm over here as the Club Rep @ New Times. I've been thinking about what I can offer that would be suited to the promoters on this list -- something of value for people promoting events, but not necessarily doing a weekly type of deals where promoters are usually down to make longer term commitments in exchange for more inexpensive advertising.
What I've come up with is this:
I think what would be beneficial to people on this list is that I can get you "frequency rates" on an "open rate" deal. What that means is that you get about 1/2 off our "open rate" (non-contract rate) by signing a contract of 12 weeks or more. I will give that rate to Dynagroove list members on 12 weeks or less.
That's good for a promoter who, like myself, typically only gives myself 3 weeks - 2 months of promotion before a party and might only want to, say, subsidize their street promotions for the last couple weeks before a show that they've got going. Perhaps you just haven't had the time to go out enough over the past few weeks and you've got a couple weeks left, well now you can at least run an ad for say the 2 or 3 weeks before your show without having to get reamed for it.
This may not be a stroke of genius, but it's at least SOMETHING!!! I'm really trying to get stuff moving over here for all of us in our community. Some may call it playing favorites... well, it is playing favorites, who f'ing cares, that's how the world works. Get people on your team into key positions where they can help and then utilize those resources. ;-)
And just FYI -- our regular retail rates are about 1/2 those of the LA Weekly and @ 1/2 our retail open rates on ads, you're talking about paying about 25% of what you'd pay at the Weekly, as well. New Times is listening to me in the short time I've been here and have committed to tripling their club content and focusing in on a "more diverse genre structure and to having the most comprehensive club listings by summer's end" -- i.e. more electronic dance music (house music) and clubs + hiphop, etc. So, stuff is popping over here and ears are open!
Also -- I know that I told you this before, but something you guys should at the very least DEFINITELY BE USING is our free club listings in the paper and online! You can email that information to the club listings editor, sarah.lawlor at newtimesla.com. They put it in on a first come, first serve basis so I'm of the opinion that it's best to email your info a week in advance of our papers release on Wednesday night (so email the Wednesday before!), and as they expand the club section over the summer, more and more stuff is going to get in, so that's good, too. But seriously, use it!!! Our paper hits a lot more eyes than just the people on this list.
You can email me at work at jim.curley at newtimesla.com regarding any questions or whatever that you might have -- also CC me when you send to Sarah so that I know who's using it and so I can follow up to see if you guys are getting listed.
And, with that being said, the only thing I can possibly think of to say that's left is...
bagok!
And...
Come to POISON @ King King, Wednesday, August 14, 2002!!! 9pm-4am... only $5 before 11pm!!!

Thanks,
