You know, there are 50,000,000 things I want to do this
weekend, esp. Saturday night, however I've just had an
opportunity thrown at me through my job that I'm even
more down to do this weekend... they're basically paying
for a $700 ticket to go to the Anthony Robbins seminar
down in Anaheim Friday-Monday this weekend and although
it's a little hoaky, I definitely think that it's
something that might kick my lazy ass into gear...
heh... shit, whatever it takes, right?!?!
Anyway -- Jhymnbrowski coveting thy neighbors groove...
Things going on this weekend:
The New Deal -- Knitting Factory - if you've never seen
these guys, you need to. They're simply BADASS... they
are a live band that does "jam style" house music,
drum 'n bass, and everything across the board. You can
go to their website to check out their shtick... it's
awesome!!! I saw them play for my first time at
Coachella in 2001, however they've been playing the "jam
band" circuit for quite some time.
Z-Trip! The Troubadour -- Badass turntablist that mixes
80's Cure into Aerosmith into Hip Hop beats and does all
this crazy freestyle shit... wish I could go to that.
Doc w/ Bodyrock... this is the second time Chris (DJ
Soul) has hooked up Doc for a smaller party of his and
I've gotta say POWER TO THE PEOPLE this go around...
last time at House of the Rising Funk (Chris working
with Dub Soldiers) they got this dope new spot, had
awesome props, everybody was dressed up Asian Karate
Stylee, and then fire marshals and cops. I hate that.
So, this is definitely a much anticipated follow up for
him I'm sure...
Q-Burns Abstract Message -- The Echo -- fun shit...
would love to see... we had them play at a party we did
like 6 years ago with Lotus Magazine called "Synergy"...
was a nightmare, because we were supposed to use the
Ukrainian Culture Center and everybody was there on the
night of the event waiting to go in and start setting
up... I'm talking sound, lighting, all of us putting it
on, entertainment flown in from elsewhere, and guess
what? The location owner didn't show up to let us in
because one of our partners had failed to confirm the
date with the owner! We scrambled to find another
location at the last minute and managed to pull it off
only starting about 2 hours late at this upstairs loft
that held about 1/3 the amount of people, however the
party went off!!! So... go figure.
Roy Davis @ Ibiza Beach Club in the southbay...
BARRY ASHWORTH OF THE DUB PISTOLS and Crystal Method @
Spundae (I alwasy had a bias against Crystal Method due
to the time they came out in L.A. aka "the tweek years
(1993)" and them being a band glorifying that lifestyle,
however they put out some fun breaks so, whatever)...
however, I love Barry Ashworth's shit.. he's played to
of our smaller No-I-Tu-Love parties in the past... I've
actually got one of his set's DAT'ed... that guy kicks
ass... he's probably not still playing the "big beat"
style that I love however he's still kicks ass... one of
these older guys that's still playing our with the heart
of a 12 year old...
Oh yeah... Teo And Mikiko that do all those "I am..."
parties are doing this huge thing over at Qtopia (6021
Hollywood Blvd) called "The Fantasssy Ball"... that's
definitely going to have the crazy Burning Man element
there with all sorts of insane performance art, fire
eaters/breathers, and naked people for sure.
God knows what else... I'm really bummed to not be going
out in L.A. this weekend.
I leave you all with this...
Beginning this moment, we can pledge to do one act of
greatness each day. An act of greatness is any task,
behavior or deed performed in a loving way for a good
purpose. We can practice greatness through service,
hrough praise and acknowledgment, in our work, and in
building a dream. An act of greatness today, tomorrow,
and the next day: soon, we discover that the magnificent
life we once believed elusive is the very one we're
leading.
