Started off my week kinda early...
Tuesday night- went to check out Tempo in Laguna Beach. Had a great time,
Peter & Irik were rocking it. Yeah, the crowd is kinda whack, but hey it's
what you make of it.... great little spot if you're around the area. And
for a Tuesday night in OC, I'm really surprised by the turnout. These guys
got a good little shindig going on.
Thursday night- Mark Farina @ Honey. Mark Farina rocked it, played his
techy, quirky shit... packed house, had fun.
Friday night- Gene Farris @ Chemistry. Ugh, I was disappointed by him. His
track selection was all over the place, mixed different styles which just
didn't flow... I don't know. Played a few great tracks, but it just didn't
sound good with what he would play after. However, Mark Sanchez & Brandon
Anthony rocked it upstairs... PIM never fails to disappoint me. Support your
local dj!
After that, we headed to SF about 430am in the morning... (don't ask) to hit
up the OM monthly @ DNA Lounge (celebrating the club's one year anniversary)
w/Undercover Agency, Derrick Carter, and Mark Farina....
And all I have to say is this night COMPLETELY blew me away...
JT Donaldson & Lance DeSardi- represented LA to the fullest. Played some
quirky, techy shit, but it was perfect for opening Derrick Carter. JT's last
track was some remix by Tweet... I forgot the name of it, something about
taking off your shirt, but it was ILL.
Derrick Carter- omg, he's the man. Never fails to disappoint. Played some
bangin shit, some old skool shit, some tight remixes. A packed house of
about 1500 kids shouting, dancing, singing... it was tight. Last track he
played, threw down ODB- "hey hey hey.. baby I've got your money.." forgot
the name.
When Derrick was done, they released a bunch of balloons over the crowd,
celebrating the club's one year anniversary.
Mark Farina- mmmmm... played deep, really deep, and SF Sessions style.
INSANE, HARD basslines- there was this one track we were all going crazy
over, which had the sickest bassline I've ever heard... wish I could find
the name of it. And then, to make it even better, he played Mushroom Jazz at
the end of his set.. mixed it up w/some hip hop. Bonita Appledum
instrumental w/a different vocal, instrumental to Mary J. Blige's I'll
Remember... and finally stopped playing at 9:30am in the morning. Ah, he
made me complete. Seriously the BEST set I've ever heard him play; and we
were basically the last group to leave the club... at 9:30am in the
morning...
As for the people, seemed like a lot of LA heads were there, met a lot of
cool SF kids, and a few kids I talked to didn't really know too much about
Derrick Carter or Mark Farina. But all in all, this was the most fun I've
ever had at any club.... I'd definitely go back if there was someone good
playing up there. Haven't partied like this in awhile- but it was definitely
worth it, even though I'm dying at work right now. Unfortunately I just did
not have the energy to make it to LLV, oh well...
And I definitely look forward to this week to celebrate my birthday next
