a wonderfully full and incredible weekend...
to start at the important stuff, and work my way back...GO you CRAZY LAKERS...
what a game! and a relief...the championships will look like summer camp compared to the sac/la match up....
now onto the music portion of our weekend.
I took friday night off in order to prepare food for saturday's JAM ON IT bbq at Griffith Park. and what a wonderful day of TONS of yummy food and some chillin' house beats on the grass...under some shady trees in the old zoo...lots of old friends, a few new ones and some youngins crusing about in the sunshine...very good job by the jam on it crew.
Home in the evening to prepare for the night's festivities...hit up a few spots to promote electric starting at the Vermont for Tony Watson's affair...we had a nice friendly greeting at the door, that being my first time at that joint, i was really impressed...it looks way nice...didn't stay long cuz my date was uber-casual and it looked to be a pretty swankily dressed affair, but fun nonetheless...
on to the Joeski/Loria event at studio 56...pretty early, bit of a thin crowd, but it was warmin' up...had a beer, said some hellos, handed out a few flyers and high tailed it to UltraSuede to find mr. Farina already on the decks...heatin' it UP.
I was surprised to see that it was hardly crowded (did thicken towards the end of the night)...
The one thing i didn't fail to notice was that the whole room was on it's feet and shakin' their asses...SO MANY DANCERS...i cruised right up front to watch the man of honor bring it alternately hard then wonderfully deep...i really really LOVE the way Mark drops the beat...he manipulates the bass like few others and always hits me right *there*
I stayed til the end...caught a really energetic encore...the crowd would just NOT give up, which is what i really like to see...so many claps and hollers...lots of smiles, just not ready at all to close up shop...too bad the location would not have it...and Mark just kinda stood there soakin' up the love for a bit until we all turned, defeated but happy to the street below...
Didn't feel too much like heading home so we returned to 56 in time to catch Steve Loria and the remaining troopers on the dance floor...a few more beers and LOTS of dancing...he was droppin the older hits and i sang along until i just could NOT stand any longer...we stepped out into the morning sun and raced home before we melted.
Sunday was almost deep, but just couldn't muster up the feelin' after that tense but TERRIFIC game...I would totally be into hearing how it went from anyone that could make it out...
I'm all but bursting about wednesday for MARK E. QUARK and Mr. ANNAND @ ELECTRIC...more info later today...see you allll there.
