The Pioneer thingie was a CD Turntable (CDJ1000) and it is a very VERY cool
toy. It is the first digital turntable that I ever used that made really
excited about the possibilites -- I spent hours playing with one down at
Guitar Center. The jog wheel is a touch sensative pad -- when in "Vinyl"
mode, pushing down on the pad stops the CD, dragging your finger lightly
slows it down. Sounds iffy, but it works really well. The
scratching/cueing capabilities are very impressive, as twentytwelve showed
last night. Also, you can create loops on-the-fly, so as a track is playing
press a few buttons and you are looping. that combined with the ability to
pre-define loops and cue points prob accounts for the "sampler" appearence
you noticed last night. All that for a mere $1200... :)
