Ok, here's my two cents. Friday me and my friends started off at Free Thinking of course. The Uniting Souls guys were on point. Jordan and Joeshua were doing it right. Then about 1AM we headed over to MORE to catch the last hour and a half of Scott K. and Tony Watson. Pretty impressive night. When we walked in the DJ's were handing out CD's and records to everyone which was pretty cool and unexpected. And at 2:30 when the music went off, everyone stayed and started clapping and then a keyboard player, a bass player, a conga player, and a drummer with a full kit started playing live music. I love this place. But I also love my Freethinking. Too bad theyre on the same night. You guys should do a party together one night on a Saturday or something "More Thinking" : ) Anyway, it was very cool. By then we were tired so we hit Tommy's and went home.
Saturday was one of the best days in a long long time. We all went to the hanson damn park for the Journey party. It was f'ing great. The sound was clear and loud and the park was so nice. There were all kinds of cool people there and lots of dynagroovers : )
I got to see Ben Annand and Mark Seva which I never saw before. They were good. It was a little too hot and early to dance at that time so I think it was a little too hard their music, but they were very good. After that Scott K. came on again and shocked me and my friends. I like his music alot so I see him at More sometimes after Freethinking. But at Journey he got on and played totally different at first. But it was perfect, I mean we were like shocked in a good way. He played all these cool old mellow songs (I don't know by who) like "Everybody loves the sunshine", and I"t's gonna be a Lovely Day", and some song by Stevie Wonder, and he played Tribe Called Quest, and some cool reggae songs I never heard before. I can't really explain why it was so perfect cause not too many people were dancing. But everyone was just sitting in the shade feeling great, smoking and drinking, and talking. And everyone around us was talking about how great the music was. Then, like halfway through his set some shade hit the dance area and he started slowly bringing in the house music. In like 10 minutes everyone was dancing. He knows what he's doing that's all I can say. Too bad More is on Friday's cause I would love to see him at Freethinking.
Then Wally Callerio came on. I've heard Wally play better, but he was definitely good. It got a little boring here and there, but being outside with friends in the great weather made up for everything. And especially cause the party was free.
Miles Maeda came on next and was much better. He was very mellow to. But he had a few really great tracks like that Maxwell remix. The thing was that it wasn't so hot anymore so I think people were wanting to go a little harder and he never really got us there. But his music was definitely great. I would love to have a CD of it.
Then we got surprised again cause it wasn't on the posted schedule they put up. The party said it was gonna end at 8PM but at 8:30 Scott K. got back on and played for another hour. I know I'm gonna sound like a groupie but this guy is f'ing amazing. maybe someone can back me up so I don't sound like an ass kisser. But for real it was like he's psychic cause he starts bringing up the tempo and playing just the right songs. It seemed like that whole dance area filled up. And he was working some kind of wierd box with his hands in the air that does tricks with the sound. And he was juggling records back and forth. All the time with a flashlight in his mouth cause it was dark (I've seen Heather do this at the Dynagroove parties to. Must be a Chicago thing). ANyway, he just set the whole mood for the night. We were all so damn pumped up we didn't want to leave.
Then it was off to Melodic. We only caught Julius Papp but he was also on point. He played I Love America. That brought back some cool memories. This was a really great party. A few hassels with security at the door but nothing big enough to get us down.
We were so tired from Friday and ALL DAY & NIGHT Saturday that we didn't go anywhwere Sunday.
Peace,
Danny
