Okay,
I write this post to better explain my brief, kind reply to the original
poster.
1. Akai S5000... Center piece of kit for house music. One of the reasons
joels tracks sound like techno is because he is using the digital synth
drums. Drums are best served through keygroup in your sampler meaning, one
key= one drum. Sampled drums are the best because they are already tweaked
and sound nice. You can use recycle (you know what this is right?) to chop
up loops and use the bits to make percussion tracks. Using loops lifted
right off a record is something from the 80's. Sampler is also great to
sample your own synths to make hits/patches. Using the filters you can
achieve crazy sounds. How else are you going to get those fat congas, or
that sick hi hat... Not from any synth I know. This is basic info.....
2. Access Virus b.... Lets face it, all new synths are only trying to
duplicate the sounds of the old, yet old synths are fussy, hard to find, and
may not run MIDI very well. So, that being said I think the best sounding
most flexible modern synth going is the AVb . You can find whatever you need
in this box, a great workhorse for any studio. I recommend at least one
synth from each company (or 3 in my case) so you can have a wide range of
colors to choose from. Keys, basslines, strings, Pads, Music comes from
these machines, percussion from samplers. = good formula :)
3. Recycle and lots of loops... This software is simply sick. You know
what it does so I will not explain it. There are so many ways you can use
loops, and bits of loops that you will find they open up a new world of
possibilities. Recycle a conga loop.......Or a shaker loop........
Caution**** you would be suprised at the number of record you buy that
contain straight loops sampled from sample cd's or records used with no
imagination.****
Joel, Hope it helps!! now make some records!!
*try setting your DP swing to 65% input quantize*
