Aline. Whether he's DJing at one of his numerous weekly gigs, putting out
new music on CHEZ, Aline has his hands deeply involved in all aspects of New
York dance culture.
As a DJ, his sets span everything from deep house to vocals, disco tracks
and deep tribal excursions, all impeccably mixed.
Aline also worked as the American liaison for Parisian promoters Respect Is
Burning, organizing tours across the country. Formerly anchored in New York
with a bi-monthly residency at Twilo, Respect also comes regularly to
Chicago's Metro and Opium Garden in Miami Beach.

Biggest inspiration: ³Hosting my mix show each week on WNYU and mixing
alongside the crème de la crème of dance music like Francois K, Laurent
Garnier, Dimitri from Paris, Carl Craig, DJ Pierre, Daft Punk, Afrika
Bambattaa and Jumping Jack Frost among others.²

³Anything with Chez Music's Neil Aline's name attached to it is a guaranteed
go.² Tricia Romano Village Voice

"Considering the current decline of club life in the City, Neil Aline is
pumping needed life's breath into our endangered scene. He's taking the
risks we need to take." --Flyer Magazine,

TIME OUT MAGAZINE INTERVIEW:
³Master of la maison²

Parisian transplant Neil Aline opens his house to lovers of deep grooves and
warm vibes By Janet Tzou

Neil Aline is a supremely happy fellow. As founder of the deep-house label
Chez Music, he currently has a major club hit on his hands with John
Cutler¹s ³It¹s Yours.² Featuring life-affirming spoken-word vocals from Bang
the Party¹s

E-man and an almost supernatur-ally catchy horn-led hook, the song has been
nearly inescapable on more discerning deep-house dance floors for months.
It¹s also one of the super-smooth tracks, along with other treats from
artists such as Romatt and the Basement Boys¹ DJ Spen, included on Chez¹s
new mix-CD, On the Rocks.

As a 19-year-old film student at NYU in ¹97, the Tahiti-born and
Paris-bred Aline hadn¹t really considered a career in music until he noticed
the lack of underground club-oriented sounds on the city¹s notoriously bland
airwaves. ³In Paris, we have radio stations that broadcast dance music all
day and all night long,² he says. ³I

noticed that there was nothing like that here. One night, I was flipping
through the radio stations, and I heard this electronic-music show on WNYU.
I just called them and asked them how I could be a part of it.²

Aline¹s WNYU DJ-mix show, BPM, quickly lined up internationally
known DJs and artists as varied as Daft Punk, Jumping Jack Frost, Afrika
Bambataa and Laurent Garnier, who were seeking an outlet for their sound on
NYC¹s airwaves. Not one to let such a fabulous contact list go to waste,
Aline quickly became one of the city¹s top club promoters, booking the NYC
edition of Paris¹s Respect Is Burning parties at the now-defunct Twilo. He¹s
currently displaying his savoir faire‹as DJ, booker and promoter‹at his We &
the Music soiree, which has spotlighted deep-house luminaries ranging from
the loopy funk of DJ Q to the slinky stylings of its new bimonthly resident,
Naked Music¹s Miguel Migs. (Sadly, the beats at BPM ended four months ago.

³Between the label and the club, I didn¹t have the time to keep it going,²
he says.)

Aline started Chez for the same reason that he tosses We & the
Music: ³They¹re both meant for people who want to discover good new music,
hear good DJs and artists who they might have heard about but haven¹t
listened to yet, and who want it a bit deep,² he says. And although Aline
grew up in France, he¹s not particularly fixated on what¹s perceived as his
home country¹s eccentric version of dance music. ³When the so-called ŒFrench
Touch¹ of house became really popular, every promoter in the States tried to
get me to book Daft Punk,² he says. ³I was like, ŒLook guys, I might be
French and I do know them, but I¹m not their agent!¹ ²

Instead, the label and party both specialize in a more
NYC-oriented style of garage-based, soulful music. And On the Rocks is a
good primer in that trademark sound, bearing a deep-house sophistication
lightened with a joie de vivre and get-down essence that mirrors Aline¹s own
spirit. The timing of On the Rocks¹s release couldn¹t be better: ³It¹s
Yours²‹which has been huge in Europe‹just went to No. 1 on the U.K. dance
charts.
