Heading Home Recordings :: News :: September 2002

Los Angeles based DJ and producer Lillyanne of Futurehouse.net, along
with her long time partner Leonard Donjuan, are preparing to launch
their independent imprint, appropriately named after their
long-running, eclectic one-off events. Lillyanne and Leonard, a.k.a
Hotlips & Hawkeye, began working together in the early nineties,
promoting events and furthering dance music in Los Angeles with their
own, unique touch, firmly rooted in a vast comprehension of the scene
combined with the desire to create new sounds. Several years later
and possessing significantly more experience in various realms of the
industry, the duo is ready to go public with their productions. Even
at the outset, it is clear that these tracks and their label are
destined for critical acclaim and more importantly, the praise of
their long time fans.

New Releases:

Hotlips & Hawkeye  ::  "Undream"  ::  HHR 001

A1  ::  Undream : Hotlips & Hawkeye
Characterized by uplifting keys and a signature bassline of biting
funk, "Undream" is unmistakably melodic and catchy in the best sense
of the word. The kind of record that forces you to move, dance and
throw your hands up, yet remain in conscious awe of its raw energy
and uniqueness. Instrumental-like choppy vocals stir up perfection
on this side of the vinyl.

B1  ::  Unfunk : Hawkeye
Building on the foundation of a sinister bassline and bubbling
futuristic effects, "Unfunk" pauses and launches with the greatest of
ease. Eerie vocal sounds layer over beats, adding new dimension to
this mixture of techno elements. "Unfunk" is well balanced with its
more feminine A side track.

Hotlips & Hawkeye featuring John Juster :: HHR 002

For their second EP, Heading Home's Lillyanne and Leonard, a.k.a.
Hotlips & Hawkeye, have contracted the musical talents of John
Juster. Classically trained in jazz composition and the saxophones
and well versed in all genres, in these collaborations, Juster proves
that house music does contain the ability to be intrinsically
musical. Here, in his first works with the Heading Home crew, are
three tracks, all sonically diverse, yet threaded together with the
commonality that is melody. Juster possesses the unique ability to
masterfully maintain the integrity of the basic production, while
adding a distinct musical element bordering on perfection.

A1 :: Koi : Hotlips & Hawkeye featuring John Juster
Inherently melodious production with gorgeous inlays of the
saxophone; rhythmic keys formulate a naturally soothing and soulful
emotion. There is a balance of song, funk and beauty. Horns melted
over beats in faultless fashion, proving that dance tracks are more
than just records. The final moments are composed by wonderful
imminence, defining an original sound in dance.

B1 :: Damsel : Hawkeye featuring John Juster
Minimal techno laced with sounds of saxophone splashing. Quick
beats, fluttery keys and melody line the bassline with simplicity and
excitement. The horn taunts then releases, creating the uniqueness
of the track in its sound.

B2 :: Fate : Hotlips featuring John Juster
Slow and melancholy, "Fate" is the most downtempo track of the EP.
Its ambience carries layers of sad horns within a calming energy.
