Hey Orlando,

gotta agree with you....Maurice rocked it last Saturday. I never really knew
much about his DJing (I missed him last time he was here). I dig his
productions, and he's a really nice guy (met him in Miami) but I really had
no idea what to expect. I was blown away. Not exaggerating when I say it
was the best overall set I've heard from any DJ since Ron Hardy in the late
80's. No doubt the soundsystem played a part, but Maurice was on fire...I'm
old so maybe the songs just had a lot of sentimental value to me, but I
seriously thought he was amazing. Thanks to Wax and Soundfactory for one of
the best parties of the year.

after Maurice finished he still wanted to party, so we all rolled over to the
Sacred Grounds party. We didn't get there til 5am so we missed Farina....but
Lou and Ruben Medellin got down. Very different styles from Fulton's but
still dope. I dug them both alot, and Maurice was dancing his ass off. And
the sound over there was banging too....very impressive. Thanks to everyone
at Sacred Grounds and UnionSoundSystem for throwing a great party.

Oh ya, and thanks to The Pantry for the extra grease on my hash browns.

I went to check out this guy on sat. not really knowing what to expect, but
let me tell you two things: Sloppy funk. :o) I know it sounds kind of wierd,
but that is the best way I can explain it. He was dropping all kinds of shit
from left field to the songs you know and love. Classic funk, house and even
some percussive, banging type-shit. Mind you, he was using a pair off walkman
headphones (you know, the kind that are small and you sorta plug into your
ears) which just blew my mind. I've seen guys use them at rinky-dink house
parties where 5 guys put their stuff together to make up the system. His
mixing was a little below my expectations, but I guess his style is one that
lets the music speak for itself (which I don't mind one bit) and I found it
to be a nice change of pace from all the technical stuff we are all used to.
It seemed like that's what everyone was there for, just the music which was
why I think this party was dope. Nice to see that things are getting !
back to the basics. You just got to know where to find them.
