DEEP Welcomes Back Chicago Maestro Mark Grant
On April 20th, Mark Grant will make his first
appearance at DEEP since October 2002 when he
celebrated the release of MGs Groove on LAs
Deepfunk Records Inner City Experience, Volume 2. Since
then, Grant has been busy with a rigorous touring
and studio schedule, constant appearances in his
hometown and a recent single on San Franciscos
highly acclaimed Om Records. Marques Wyatt and his
DEEP faithful eagerly welcome back Grant for a
night of deep and jazzy Chicago grooves.
Mark Grant came of age in Chicago, the undisputed
birthplace of house music. From his first
encounter at the age of twelve, he fell in love with its
unique sound and was influenced by legends like
Frankie Knuckles. Having DJed as a hobby
throughout college, upon graduation, Grant decided to
pursue his true love. After playing the Chicago scene
for a few years, Grant released Gotta New Love
Thang with Ralph Rosario to widespread critical
acclaim. Releases on Cajual (both solo and
collaborative) and Guidance followed, all leading up to
his first nationally released mixed disc, A Taste
of Cajual.
Since his explosion onto the scene in the
mid-nineties, there have been numerous records on the
aforementioned Guidance, Deep Soul, Silk
Entertainment and Frances Cyclo, home to his highly lauded
Jazzy Kinda Sumn, a track licensed to several
international compilations including Lazy Dogs
first double disc installment. The new millennium
has carried Grant to even higher echelons of
success via his affiliation with Om Records and the
fast rising Deepfunk. Following in the footsteps
of Wyatt himself, Grant mixed Oms Sound Design V2
in 2001. A year later, his Hey You was featured
on the celebratory Om 100; the track was released
as a single in October 2002. He is currently
concentrating on the establishment of Blackstone
Recordings with partner Andre Harris.
In addition to his many productions, Grant has
remixed artists ranging from Glenn Underground to
Green Velvet to Julius Papp; he has held
residencies at some of Chicagos most celebrated venues
and DJed throughout the globe. On April 20th, he
returns to his loyal Los Angeles crowd at the
Sunday night sanctuary DEEP, playing alongside
resident, promoter and his longtime friend, Marques
Wyatt. + The DEEP Support System( Richard" Slick" Lopez, Big C, Frank Lara)
