was freakin dope! got there around 3 to start off w/NERD(they were aaiight)
nothin great. then went over to the sahara 'rave' tent to check felix da
housecat. He was a bit too into his creativity, stopping tracks as soon as
the crowd gets into the groove & weird sudden transitions. For the most
part his track were pretty well selected, although the most of them were a
bit too well known & played for my tastes. (la la land, personal jesus,
blue monday, & some prince remix). Although it was a bit weird getting that
party vibe while the sun was out in full force.
Eventually the sun died down, maques wyatt came on & in a 30min set took the
crowd away from darren emerson's progressive & into some deep house.
Setting the stage for masters at work. I've seen them b4 but never this
way... They were way too into themselves, having people hype the crowd for
them, because theyre tracks werent cutting it. For like 20min, they plyed
the same tribal tech beat w/o any change-ups what so ever. Over & over
their front man would come out & yell "for the first time ever in
california, Masters @ Work"... ok... great... play something different.
Too much emphasis on the packaging.
Then all gets dark in the tent... yellow light goes back on, Roger Sanchez
rocks his body & he drops a sick bassline on the crowd. WOW! The crowd
erupted, i got goosebumps, & the the bass was insane. what a rush... For 2
1/2 hours i couldnt leave from the front of the stage, where i was just
stuck in the groove. I havent had that much since the last time i saw the
S-man at audiotistic.
Oh yeah, groove armada's live band set was the shit.
