Back in like 95-96 there were these parties thrown down at Dockweiler
beach by the So-Cal Raves guys, and I don't think that they had any
permits to do that. That beach is pretty much an emergency landing zone
for airplanes taking off from LAX and prime power plant land. The street
is way up from the beach and the sound really doesn't travel at all. I
have no idea how easy it is to throw a party down there now, but I know
back then I spun at a couple of those things and I knew the dudes that
threw them and they weren't getting permits.. Granted, they weren't
bringing out 20 cabinets either. It was two or three speakers, one amp,
and a generator. They also brought a sun shield after a couple of times
to keep the records from melting. :P There's always hansen dam too...I
know Venice is probably out of the question because the cops have been
really strict over there. Last time I was down there they were busting
the drum circles and stuff so I doubt they would be down with amplified
sound again.. who knows though all it really takes are some connects.

I didn't even know that they were still going on... that's fucking rad... to me, it's the pinnacle of everything that I love about going out... awesome "daytime" house dancing on the bay by the water, with the sun out all the way through to sunset with super amazing people. That shit rules.
> We've had moments of that in LA throughout the years... we definitely had that one summer with our Venice Beach parties back in '95-'96, and that was very signature L.A. with the dancing in the pit with all the grafitti over there that's recently been torn down since the Venice Beach "facelift"... we had the summer "picnics in the park" in San Diego for a quite a while from '93-???... and then most recently the summer "Give Thanks" parites and some day time downtown things over the years... but we really lack a good "day time" free gathering thing that goes on regular like in the good 'ol outdoors.
> I definitely would like to do a little research on some of the permitting processes for some of the parks/beaches in the LA Westside areas... I know that with how mainstream our music has become, not everybody is looking at "house" music as that "raver shit" anymore... we can almost sell it as disco since all the people in power positions these days probably went through that whole movement when we were in the process of conception of perhaps just wee little brats.
> Anyway, blah blah... just kind of thinking out loud, however, even if this Dynagroove list thing doesn't happen by the beach, anybody who's interested in getting something going and has some leads/places to start our search, perhaps email me and let's see what we can come up with as far as doing at least one beach party this summer... I think it'd be fun and good to set up the groundwork perhaps for a series of free daytime parties next summer. Whadday think?
