This week our feature mix is by Seattle's finest, Kristina Childs
(CybeReaction, Seattle).
so.... asking yourself, "who is Kristina Childs?"
well here you go:
"I'm not the type to just sit there and listen, I want to be involved,"
says Kristina Childs. "The first time I heard this music, I knew I
wanted to play it." Starting in 1999 with a mixture of funky house,
techno and drum & bass, Childs quickly evolved her style into the deep,
soulful and bass-heavy tech sound she brings to clubs and parties
throughout the Northwest today. She has been a resident at Seattle clubs
Contour, Habana's, and Art Bar, and has been the Guest DJ in numerous
clubs and parties throughout the Northwest. In 2000 she was invited to
headline one of Frankfurt, Germany's underground parties Trial and
Error.
Kristina began playing piano at the age of five, and by the age of ten
was playing pieces such as Hayden's Sonata No. 5 at Lakewood mall. She
took up flute by eleven, and studied ballet for seven years. Childs was
introduced to Techno in 1995, but being involved in the punk scene, she
remained a closet technohead until her first party in 1998. Shortly
after she was introduced to house music, and was sure this music would
become a fundamental part of her life. It did, and within a year
Kristina was playing parties and after-hours within and around the
Seattle area. In 2001 she held several residencies, then was confronted
with overwhelming life crises.
Following a year off to think, live, and gain perspective, she found a
renewed vision and drive to expand her skills into production. "I still
love everything about playing records, and I doubt I'll ever stop," she
says," but now I want to share my own music. I want to put my
experiences and passions into a format that people can hear. I love many
other formats of music, and want to build my skill and do something
interesting with those." So the past few months have found her in the
studio, refining her sound and preparing for what is sure to be a string
of solid releases starting in 2003.
