We are truly blessed! As many of u know, Modern Groove Assembly is taking up
residency at Cafe Club Fais Do Do for any and all Thursdays in February.
And, we've been working very hard to bring you the hottest possible live
shows, with the best new music in the city.
It's going to be hard to top our opening nite, Feb. 6... The MGA will be
appearing with 2 of the nicest new acts in the game right now... Star 69 and
Naturez Dezign...
Who? Well, u may not have heard of these groups yet, but u are not going to
get a better live show anywhere anyhow anytime for $20, $40, or $75 dollars!
And we only charge $10. Guaranteed or your money back!
Let me break it down 4 ya...
U know the MGA comes correct with the 10 piece all star lineup of session
heavies who have worked w. everyone from Stevie Wonder to Tower of Power to
Donnie to Mariah Carey to Herbie Hancock to the Gerald Wilson Orchestra and
beyond. And, u know they've got the fresh cuts, the deep house, and the mad
nu jazz and soul vocals of Kelli Stanton and Kia Hamm.
BUT, let's talk about these other acts on the bill...
First, Star 69; While most new groups seek to generate buzz, these ladies
have graduated from buzz to hum to rumble to sonic boom, all in one gig!
They are a nu-soul vocal trio with so much style and vibe that it's actually
a bit scary!
All of these women have major background vox credits; we're talking Whitney
Houston, Macy Gray, Santana, Ronnie Jordan, the Black Eyed Peas, Miles
Tackett (Breakestra) and the list goes on and on.
The group features Stephanie Alexander, who sings and plays guitar, vocalist
Dawn Beckman, and Sy Smith, who sings and plays keyboards. Sy also released
a highly acclaimed solo effort on Hollywood Records, Psykosoul, which got
the following review from the online All Music Guide
"...fits perfectly into the genre of "nu classic soul." Smith's slick style
of writing over organic yet urban tracks showcases a brilliant marriage of
classic soul and hip-hop. Her brilliant cover of Edie Brickell's "What I Am"
was featured on the PJ's soundtrack and rounds off this debut. The standout
track is called "That Ring," interpolating Donny Hathaway's classic "Someday
We'll All Be Free" to great effect.... Sy Smith, the singer, the songwriter,
the producer, the actress, deserves to be around for years to come."
This is a great group with strong material, (Sucka 4 Love is a SWEET jam), a
fresh sound and.... oh yeah... here's a picture....
NOW we got your attention?
Good, now let's get on to the next act on the bill, Naturez Dezign. This
band may not boast the heavyweight credits of the first 2 acts, but that's
just a formality and a matter of time, cuz this is one superlive,
extratight, delicious and tasty LIVE HIP HOP BAND!
2 MC's, One female vocalist (who raps as well) and a sick backing band, with
rhodes, drums, percussion, bass and sax. The MGA loves everything about this
band; their sound, their live show, their material, their energy, lyrics,
variety, tightness, vibe, personality, passion, drive, direction and we can
go on and on... I have seen them 3 times now and they NEVER disappoint, but
always DELIVER FRESH.....
So there u have it... our first night out and it's guaranteed to be a first
round KO for funk... here's the links

NEW MGA MATERIAL: Thanks to our loyal friends who come to every show... just
4 u, we're popping in a ton of new material. First off, we are going to do a
cover of "The Name of Fela Will Always Stand 4 Freedom" by the amazingly
talented UK based composer / pianist Jessica Lauren. Not only is this a sick
afrobeat jam, but Ms. Lauren herself was kind enough to help Steve of MGA
actually play the right voicings on the keyboard by giving him an e-mail
piano lesson! Thanks and props to Jessica! Please check for this amazing
artist!
Also, we're doing a cover of Roy Davis Jr.'s "Gabriel" which features our
man Louis Taylor on the soprano saxophone... we're doing a version of "The
Truth" from Dan The Automator's "Handsome Boy Modelling School" project...
We're putting in a mad nu jazz track from the great up and comer Mark De
Clive Lowe, and we've got a few new originals as well... Come and get it!!!
