There's plenty of aggressive house music... so I don't think there's
an inherent contradiction. I imagine there's some connection to the
so-called "electroclash" scene here... some of the DFA's stuff is
pretty punk rock, in both the aesthetic and the sound. (There was a
similar thread on this list a few months back).
I think, as with most of these "fad" genres, that there are probably
some cool tracks of this type... and undoubtedly, there will be lots
of crappy imitations that will not be quite so cool.

Realistically, this will almost definitely be like any of these fad
genres - 2 step, speed gar(b)age, electroclash... it will probably not
last a long time, although it will probably have at least some influence
on dance / club music in general. I think the real question is why
people feel the need to create all of these little compartmentalized
genres and sub-genres of music.
The thing about genres (in music, as well as in the other arts),
is that they usually come out of something brilliant... and they
occasionally are responsible for works that transcend the genre -- but
they are also responsible for a lot of mediocre garbage. Generally,
the works that transcend a genre are the ones that push its boundaries
a little bit.
But, hey -- we're living in a postmodern world, and I'm a postmodern
girl... I'm all for artists having diverse interests and combining them
in unique ways, and I'm all for interesting an innovative music. I just
don't know if we need to create a new sub-genre of music every time
someone comes up with a new combination of musical styles.
