[Dynagroove] CD or not CD, that is the tired-ass question

How can you be so scrutinous about media format when you're going out to
hear a DJ?
That sort of elitism and wannabe-purism, and pre-occupation with being
part of something or whatever is ridiculous and absurd.
Think about exactly what the dj's doing up there anyway. Techincally,
not romantically.

You're dealing with somebody who's playing music made, generally, by
other people who aren't there with their synths and guitars and sax's
and vocalists to begin with. With that in mind who the hell cares what
format it's in? as long as it's not pre-mixed cd's the dj still has a
job up there in my opinion (I had friends who'd do shows with cd's that
had 3-4 tracks digitally mixed together already and play those...
weaknotfresh!!!) . Then you can get into the romantic "role of the dj
god" bidniss people love to talk about. I've heard dj's play all-vinyl
sets of crap. Does one say "hey at least it was all vinyl!" then? Na.

I think we've gotten well beyond glorifying anything that has anything
to do with anything relative to this. There's more dj's in this town
than long-haired-tight-acidwash-jeaned guitar players. I can buy a dj
setup at Tower in sherman oaks. CD OR VINYL. We all have access to the
same stores with the same stock. To me it's not about how cool it is to
see vinyl making a comeback and how "roots" it is. What's relevant now,
in my opinion, is who's got music people may not have heard, who's done
their digging and not defaulted to the new and famous labels wall as the
only place to look for their purchases (as much as possible), how that
music is programmed and if it's creatively presented, the diversity of
the sounds (directly relative to the selectors uber-nerd/researcher
attitude towards music - since john and susan dancer don't necessarily
have time to do that themselves).....

and of course cool clothes, a neat hairstyle and futuristic
headphones... HAHA (:^o

And while we're at it, DJ ego's definitely gotta stop. (Not to be
mistaken for pride in your work/worth). It's one thing to feel that
you're doing what you think is a good thing, and feeling you have
something to give above others in your field. That's just how shit works
in any field. It's another thing to become a pompous ass and forget that
there's others that might have something you don't, do it differently
using their own wonderful imagination, have found something that you
werent' aware of, forget that there's still a matter of personal taste
and preference involved (not just "my shit's good, others just don't
know!"), nor forgetting that you're still playing other people's music
up there. .

These are just my opinions, I'm not saying this as fact. I'm no expert.
Just some feller who thinks.

But to me its like arguing about wether a) visor's and glowsticks or b)
mickey mouse gloves and dr. seuss hats "make" the rave experience more
real. huh... And further: A) laptops and software or b) gear? ... Is
"IDM" a) a good name or b) nonsense? What is "deep house?" All recurring
threads and arguments I've lived through and all equally useless.

Why care? You can make crap out of gold and gold out of crap, if you're
mind and heart is in the right place.

Anyway, I think for these reasons, that format, for the most, has become
irrelevant.

And to the vinyl purists who aren't dj's: please explain, in detail,
why. I'm curious if it's based on anything besides "just cuz. F*ck that
CD sh*t."

Ps. I cant wait for the dozens of emails I'll get from people taking
"romantically" the wrong way.
