I agree with your comments and I just wanted to throw in my two cents on this
matter. House music is one of the most intelligent forms of music out there
no doubt, but it is not the only form of intelligent music out there. We need
to look around us and see what else is out there. See where the open-minded
people are hanging out, and find the people who would be willing to come out
and enjoy our music. A lot of clubs are playing more than just one style of
music, catering to a crowd of people that are just down to hear some good music.
For instance, check Club 82 out @ the Echo on Sundays, anything goes that is
good: House, electro, rock, hip-hop, etc. These guys are killing it every
week, and they throw their party on a Sunday. I never see anyone promoting any
House music parties there, and why not try something new? No one is ever
promoting Bang, Underground, Synthetic, Club London, etc. These clubs play a
variety of music and is an untapped source to bring in new people, I was at Ivar
last night and there were people promoting for Smokeout there. You have to
promote outside the scene to gain new interest, because if you promote to the
same people over and over again, it gets boring. I have learned that people
always want to go out, every night of the week, they don't care where, as long as
there is good music, cheap drinks, and more girls than guys. You have to
create interest, bring in new/different talent/music, as well as house. I know we
have our purist in this scene who do not want to conform to such ideals, and
want house music to be like "the old days." Well, it ain't, sorry to say
times change people move forward, I mean look how many big DJ's crossover into
other genres, lets use Felix Da Housecat as an example, no one ever books him at
their clubs ever. He is tight, and he is a true pioneer of the music, and he
is doing probably better than any other big name House DJ at the moment. He
went down a different avenue with the Electroclash scene and with Miss Kitten,
blew the F up. When he plays out his drops the solid house cuts as well, but
no one give him props when he is doing better than most. Did anyone promote
Monster Massive, didn't see too many & there was a grip of people there, and
that's is where is all starts. We just need to get creative with it, and think
of new ways to innovate the scene with what we have the moment and make sure
it is just for FUN!
