OK...... I've been holding this in for months now, and I can't keep it to
myself for any longer. Honestly, I love the LA House scene. I think it's
fucking great. So what that they're aren't any underground parties rite now, and
that things are being thrown at clubs. Who cares, don't get me wrong I would
much rather be at a dirty ass warehouse sweating me ass off. But you learn to
play with the cards you get dealt. And ya I agree the talent in LA is somewhat
lacking, but every once in awhile there's some good talent. Shit we just had
Solar and Galen come down and on November 15th Mateo & Matos are comming
across the country from NY to play at Balance (King King). But shit, when I first
started going to parties back in '94 I never knew whew the DJ's were. I
went cause I knew I was going to have a good time and hear some dope banging
beats.
This whole thing with people complaining about other people being
negative is pissing me off. I remember reading someone's post about people need
to be more friendly on the dance floor. What The Fuck!!! I don't know about
you, but when I'm dancing the last thing I want is someone trying to talk to me
and be my friend. Don't get me wrong I'm super friendly and one of the
nicest guy's you'll ever meet. You know, I love meeting new people and socializing
but not when I'm trying to dance, wait till I go outside or I'm taking a
break. Seriously, I go to parties/clubs to dance and enjoy the music. Also, this
whole shit talking thing. You know what, get over it. It existed at parties
20 years ago, and it will continue to exist into the future. If it bothers
you, then don't listen. People hear what the want to hear and see what they
want to see. As for the comments about the lack of warm friendly people and a
loving family....... um ya that was nice and all. But hello it hasn't been
like that in years due to the fact that everyone's a little older, people have
matured, and the good ol' "Happy Drug" isn't around as much.
OK, back to the whole LA scene not sucking. I don't think some of you
people realize that things go in cycles. In my opinion, LA's House scene is
4 years behind Chicago's. People talk about how good the Chicago and New
York's scene are. And the truth is, ya, they are. But not always, just in the
last couple of years have they improved. When I moved to LA from Chicago in mid
'97 the scene in Chicago was dead. And things out here in LA were definitely
on the underground. I remembering going to "FAMILY" parties, "Melodic's,"
even some "Wicked" parties, and a few over one off's. And the only two House
clubs that I can remember were "Release" and "Does Your Mama Know." Meanwhile in
Chicago everything was being thrown at clubs. There was no underground.
Venue's were almost impossible to get. Just like how it is today in LA.
As for parties ending early blame that on the no venue's available.
Look, I'm not a promoter or anything but, from what I heard it's like
impossible for a club to get an after-hours venue license. As for the clubs closing at
2am and the very very few that are open till 4am, well, that's the LAW here
in good ol' California. Yes, in New York and Chicago the clubs on Saturday
night stay open a little later, but that's their LAW. And If I remember
correctly, they latest the clubs stay open is till 5am, so whoopty freakin dooo, one
more hour.
I don't know, I'm not trying to start a fight with anyone, and I'm not
trying to make friends. I'm just venting about things that I have read
lately on this mailing list. So take what I wrote as you will. Peace.
Matt
