Well... I must agree on the people AT TIMES seem to suck a fat one but
OTHER TIMES the crowd is dope and the vibe is family oriented... the problem
is people seem to have this fasination of comparing LA to every other city
out there... and yes in the last 2-5 years LA hasn't had consistant bad ass
shows but you can't say LA's house seems is cheesy... it's lazy at worst.
LAs house seen at this time is probably reacting to more than just the
music and dancing and love. LA is suffering from Permits being denied
promoters being busted along with the shows... I bet you out of all the
Places you've mentioned LA has been the hardest hit even before the new
R.A.VE. act and even before HOW SWEET IT IS- I think this started brewing
in 1996-1997 the pinnacle of our debacle was CIRCA when LAs underground was
exposed to the nation as being to HORNY FOR ANYTHING THAT FUCKS YOU UP and
obviously throwing fire extinguishers on cop cars didn't help either. I can
go on - GHB, K and N2O a.k.a. NOZ... Brought a different element to what we
here in LA were used to. This caused a separation of sorts.... TRANCE/
BOOTY HARD HOUSE/ JUNGLE/ HARDCORE AND TECHNO took a life of it's own and
started to push HOUSE away- as well as HOUSE pushing them away just as
hard... this caused somewhat of an ELITIST State of mind for the HOUSE
SCENE. Back in 89 to about 92 there was a period were we just went out to
an UNDERGROUND PARTY or RAVE --- NO LABELS just Electronic Music... NOW it's
you better not wear something too loud or too RAVE like if you're expecting
any respect from a 'HOUSE HEAD' what does this then do? It starts up
'clicks' then IT STARTS TO BE HIGH SCHOOL ALL OVER AGAIN... thinking who's
cooler that who... who's got 'Juice'... then this spirals out of control
like a ripple in still water cause others to do the same.... I used to be
able to go to a party alone and talk to as manny people as I wanted with out
feeling 'threatened' by their stature in the outside world and how much
Juice they had- now you feel like the only time you make eye contact with
someone it's when they're handing you a flyer to their party...
blah blah blah...
my point is don't make the LA house scene out to be CHEESY... especially
because they didn't give Farina love on his 10000 time playing in LA- not to
mention it was on a Thursday not to mention I've seen him suck in San
Francisco, San Diego and in Seattle ...
I've seen to many good crowds to say LA is down.
