okay i'm gonna throw some spare change out there. it used to be that events/clubs were built around the promoters and the residents. they created a sound for their spot and that's what people came to trust. i started going to parties/undergrounds(whatever) around early '93 and you went 'cuz of the name(s) behind the event not the dj's(remember next step... got damn that shit was funky thanx jhymn). now the dj's have outgrown the promoters. very few promoters take chances on new talent 'cuz they got bills to pay. i remember seeing out of town dj's on a flyer and had no idea who they were, but if i dug the promoters i went anyway trusting in them that they would always represent proper. it was about what they had to offer and not the dj's they brought in. you trusted them(promoters & residents). there is too much formula involved now, which i'm not knocking. we're all older and got different responsiblities. it's usaully the unheard locals who now push boundaries and don't give
  a
damn(especially if they have a 9 to 5 that pays bills). a dj's main job is to get your crowd to trust you, then you break different styles/tempos/genres and they will follow. everything changes. so die like a dinosaur or enjoy what's being offered to you and support those who give you what you want. it's been a long time since i was at a party that got busted b4 1, 2 or 3a.m. and was assed out of $10, 15 or 20 bones. yeah there's up&downs know matter what. it's nice having small parties go 'til 4 or 5 in the morning and getting to know the people who go week after week. can you extended family. built on the love of music. some of you were not around when promoters would dime on each others parties. believe me things have come a long way. people would diss other parties and now people are date checking??? come on that never happened b4. shit was ruthless.

on a side note i would like to give props to mr. annand for taking chances and building his crowd from the ground up. there are others, but my gentlemen jack is demanding my attention and the meds are ruthless. remember house iz dead and that's not bad. let's get back to celebrating and dancing.
tha soul shaker old&tired, but still kickin'!
one house baby!

i haven't been to all the dope local spots, and you
know why? i'm picky, and that's ok. we only have so
much time, we have to drive everywhere, and people are
trying to charge covers at half of the places. left
with those hurdles, how many reasonable people will
try out a dj they don't know over a proven commodity?

be fair. we only have so many hours in our life,
we're trying to put the most enjoyment in them.

as someone who's put on events for years, i know what
you're talking about. but i think that you're not
only the president of this company, you're probably
also a client...
