In my 7 years living in here in sunny California, I have one "moment" (or
era if you will ) that stands out in my mind as truly "defining" the LA
House Music Scene...
The summer(s) of free outdoor daytime parties...
Only in LA can I go over to Big Cee's backyard and listen to great sets by
Eddie Amador and Roy Davis Jr. while eating amazing bbq...
Only in LA can I go to the Hansen Dam (for the first time) and kick up
some dirt to Marques Wyatt and Doc Martin.
Only in LA can I go to the (other side of the) Hansen Dam and listen to
Lady D while eating the most amazing hummus and bbq from the one and only
MARTY-Q! (I love eating... it's up there with dancing and sex)
Only in LA can I go to Griffith Park and hear Gene Ferris...
Only in LA can I go to my favorite beach (Point Dume) to get a tan to find
Louis setting up a sound system. Nice!
And not mention the wonderfully friendly Dynagroove Meet-n-Greets! (the
Pool party was the best!)
I know there are a bunch of free day parties that I am leaving out, but
you get the idea.
I'll tell ya, they certainly don't have that shit in Detroit!
