man, this sucks. i was sort of hoping it to be rumor only.
i missed part of diz's set at dynagroove 3 years ago to hear
part of geminis set upstairs at the shaolin. it was an amazing
set, until my friends that were all whooped up on x decided i
needed to be 'found'. sigh. sad that that sort of talent just drifted away.
on a side note - to lucas' email - you brought up some great talent,
nice to see. i have to say i hated the sgp crew for the way that they
threw parties, but in all, i've been impressed with the talent in their
crew. even though their voicemail first sent me to LONG BEACh and
then back to downtown art space for night of miguel and julius papp,
it was a banging night. i came down hard on that crew, but that party
fucking went off - it was up against a meelo (sp?) night too. nothing
like openning those doors in the wee hours for julius to bang.
juan nunez could have his good nights - he burnt out too quickly tho and
didn't improve with time (sorry juan, nice guy tho) . he hands down ruined
the vibe at the second to last motion ever. sigh.
anyone who knows me knows how much i love love love roy davis jr, but they
also know that i have never seen him live - much has been because of the
poor reviews i have heard of his mixxing skills. stuff he produces tho
comes
off so amazing - i guess i want to keep that intact and not ruin my myth.
:)
how about becky and lucas bringing out johnny fiasco twice?!?! for $10 too.
sweet guy, amazing tracks and likes to have fun. and thanks to ben for
bringing
him out a few years ago to a tropical - again, ben rules as do his parties -
even
tho i haven't gone to a tropical in a while.
local talent, we have much to be thankful for - cade (even tho he says he
sucks,
he likes to spin the disco and bring out some excellent talent), jonene,
dazy, the texans -
lance, jt, jamie, cle, then there's iz, diz, heather, james curd, thomas
sahs, mark e quark,
miguel migs, miles maeda and fred fucking everything. ben has brought in
foreigners
from all over, the british crew a few years ago (NOT THE IDJUT BOYS) but some
other
guys that were fun - lady d, etc, etc.
we are lucky to be in this area where much talent comes thru.
i guess we all have our fave/most despised djs. would be interesting
to hear who impressed people the most, tho.. maybe thats the new
thread?
