The last I heard him play, it was more soulful with a HUGE emphasis on
Christianity then anything else. I'm talking the TRUE GOSPEL HOUSE,
literally. Every song was about Jesus or how christ would come down &
save us or how we should dedicate our lives to the lord, etc., etc.
I was really hoping to see him drop this infamous "OLD SCHOOL DETROIT
HOUSE" sound that all the east-coasters/Detroit heads from back ion the
day talk so grandly about, but was a little taken off guard when every
track was very religious or had some sort of religious agenda behind it.
Now don't get wrong, I was amazed at how he was
manipulating/cutting/scratching every record, sometimes mixing for minutes
at a time with no headphone (or even with that old school telephone-type
gizmo that he uses) seamlessly each & every time & had flawless
programming.
I am a TP fan no doubt & would def. go see him again & just may tonight as
he is rarely out in these parts. I highly suggest everyone to go see him.
He dj's like no other I have ever seen, really & is trully a showman and
legend in every sense.
But just be forwarned that it may get a little heavy on the "GOD" side on
things. I love me some gospel house & def. am a fan of the souful
movement that's coming up out here in LA
(big up FTWK, INSPIRATION, MR. WYATT and all the rest of you out there
spearheading this side of the music that hasn't really gotten a chance to
shine until now)
so don't get it twisted. I guess I just want let everyone know what they
might get when they peep him out. Who knows, maybe he will come with the
sound he was once known for. If not, you will still be in for a good time
and have the chance to experience a true DECKNICIAN, no doubt. ;)
