MARKUS NIKOLAI
Markus Nikolai has music in his genes. Since his initial love affair
with all sounds electronic in the early eighties, he has conquered
DJing and the live performance, but it is the production realm of dance
music in which he has made his most significant contributions. “I
wanted to produce music that didn’t exist,” he says. “New sounds which
nobody had heard before.”
As part of many live outfits, including Bigod 20, Darren, Florida
Project, LoveLineExpress, Morane, Pico Rocco, and Pile, he has produced
several albums for industry standards such as Sire and Sony/Epic,
including Steelworks, from which tracks and video clips were used in
Hollywood blockbusters Cape Fear and Sliver. In 1997, together with
Thomas Franzmann (a.k.a. Zip), the duo launched their own imprint,
Perlon, which has achieved the highest levels of success and acclaim
within the global dance scene. In 1999 the SuPERLONgevity compilation
was released, featuring “Bushes,” a track that has since garnered
chart-topping remixes from the likes of Derrick Carter and Fatboy Slim.
One year later, Markus released Back, his first solo album on Perlon.
He continues to travel the globe touring his live performance and
presenting his own definition of house music. Look for debut double
pack “Mr. Big Star” featuring vocalist Nina and remixes by Broken Rule
and Dubloner on Headinghome, scheduled for release this fall.
Markus Nikolai & Nina appear on Headinghome Recordings courtesy of
Perlon.
