[Dynagroove] No More Electro My Ass

Hmmm....

If Felix's set Saturday night was "electro" by SoCal definition, I would
have toent from the Detroit definition of "electro." To me, coming
orignally from the Detroit area, "electro" is the stuff you break dance
to, such as Afrika Bambaata's "Planet Rock" or Kraftwerk's "Numbers".
Granted, I only heard the first hour of Felix's set, but in that hour I
heard NO "electro", at least not using the Detroit definition of the
genre.

But I wasn't really expecting to hear "my" kind of electro... The last
time I heard Felix was at "ICE," a very cheesy club in Vegas. He ROCKED
me for 3 hours straight. He didn't really play "house"OR "electro," he
just played crazy remixes of stuff you'd never think you'd hear in a club,
such as "Smells like Teen Spirit", or straight up classsics that you
rarely hear in a club, such as "Off the Wall". In the first hour of his
set, I heard only one track that would fit into either of those two
categories: a crazy remix of Gary Newman's "Cars" (which of course few
people recognized.) All the other tracks I heard in that hour were, in
my opinion, quite boring. (Sorry, Felix! I still love ya!) To me it all
sounded like WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! Being hit in the face with a 2x4
at 130 bpm. Not enough melody, percussion, or baseline to make me dance.
I was really disappointed. Especially considering that I perferred his
VEGAS set to his LA set. A very sad day for me in LA, indeed.

After an hour of "beating" my friends and decided that we really needed to
dance and that Felix just wasn't giving us what we wanted. So we left and
went over to King King to hear Jay-J. Much more my style.

Perhaps if I had stayed longer I may have heard what I wanted. But after
10 years of dancing to house music, if a DJ can't make me dance within an
HOUR, I'm out. I am not saying that Felix was in ANY way bad, I just
didn't like his record selection this time NEARLY as much as the last time
I heard him.

My two cents,
Amy Ricketts
