Ok, let's talk about venues. In short, we at
Greenhouse need one. Actually, let me elaborate on
that...we need a GOOD one. We have several venues in
mind who are more then willing to have us do nights
with them, of coarse why wouldn't they be- with their
$300 rental fees, or $1500 bar minimums, or $150
security fees, or the $280 sound guy fee (of coarse we
have to provide our own tables and mixers)...
This has made me think a bit about being a promoter.
1) Why should an established promoter pay a fee to a
bar who obviously does not have the a) balls to take
the risk b)time or experience, or c) the money to do
their own promotions?
Yet they will glady take the $1000 bar increase a
promotor brings them as well as the $300 fees etc.
while the promotor walks home without even enough
money left in his account to pay for a taxi ride home?
When you think about it...the promotor takes on all
the risk involved in throwing a night or an
event...the promotor pays all the dj's, pays for all
the flyers and promotions, pays for gas and covers and
dedicated endless late nights promoting for the event
all to drive customers to a bar who sits back and
charges an astronomical rate for liquor and makes out
like a champ...who should really be paying who here?
Now, I don't expect any venue to pay me (let's be
realistic, the world's not that logical)...but I do
want a venue who will make it possible to throw a
quality event with excellent music and great vibes
without running costs up to a point where the promotor
(in this case myself) is forced to charge a $15 cover
(believe me, I hate this as much as the next person,
although in most cases it is the venue and the costs
incurred by them that cause these rediculous covers-
not the promotor contrary to popular belief)
Lofts, or warehouses are also of high interest. So if
you know of a place, or know someone who knows of
someone who knows a place, whatever...hit me up, and
I'll make it happen. I've got too much great stuff
just waiting for a home to sit on and do nothing
about!
peace party people,
let me know...
