[Dynagroove] FAMILY I am gonna tell it how it is.

A little history on me. I have been going to parties
in this scene fore well over 10 years. I have been
around for the good times and the bad times. I have
gone from techno to breaks to house and back to
techno. Although I have not been able to make it out
much I was making a very special effort for the FAMILY
party. I am one that always went out for the music
more so then for the socializing or drugs. I
attended FAMILY last night and I must say musically I
was sorely disappointed. As an event though it
definitely felt like 4 years ago. What I am going to
say is probably going to come across a bit harsh and
probably anti-PLUR to most of you. But alas I think
the promoters and public should really hear the truths
rather then the BS hype that this list can be known
for.

I was anticipating FAMILY for the the last 3 weeks. I
was excited to see that they were going back to their
roots and not announcing line ups and doing minimal
fliers. I remember FAMILY parties where you had to
know someone who knew someone who knew someone else to
get it. The rumor was the cops were calling the
FAMILY VM and busting them. Wow man that was a long
time ago. I arrived at the map point and was pleased
that the party was only $15. Drove to the location
where it took 10 minutes to find parking and another
10 minutes to drive. The venue was very impressive
and dark the way it should be. When I arrived there
was a small front room where some very bad tech breaks
were being played by someone I did not recognize. I
proceeded into the house room that was well filled.
The sound was great and I explored the venue a bot to
find my nugget of space to dance in. There was a
female DJ that was playing. She was OK but I got no
vibe. I really felt like no one else did. She was
just playing records and nothing that memorable. She
looked very stiff and nervous behind the decks. The
whole time she was just looking down at her hands and
not to the crowd. She was not vibing at all and I
think the crowd was zoning in on that. She seemed to
have mixed well and her tracks were ok just mostly
fillers. I hate to say it but I would imagine that
she is probably dating one of the promoters or the
promoter is probably trying to date her. She was cute
and all but it really did not seem like she was ready
to play to a crowd that big. Nothing is worse then a
DJ that is always staring at their hands and not even
looking up at the crowd. We need DJs that vibe and
dance while they spin, really feel the music. Maybe
if she was more comfortable behind the decks and could
loosen up and feel the crowd and the music something
more memorable would have come out of her.

Chris goodvibe needs to buy new records. I have a
Chris Goodvibe CD hear from 3 years ago and he pretty
much played the same thing as what was on that CD. I
hope the promoter did not pay him because he pretty
much played his CD. Oh except the CD did not have the
sloppy mixes. Chris I love you but seriously an get
some creativity. Did you play any record that wasn't
2 years old and a hit. I heard Cade does a party
called Solid Gold maybe you should put in your
application. But I doubt cade will want to share his
glory.

Finally some good music came on. Some tall bald guy
came on played some good tunes and I was able to get
my dance on a bit. whoever that was thank you for
finally making me wiggle. Half way through his set
the bodyrockdjs went on in the SMALL room? Why you
would put the BR in the small room is beyond me. They
would have been the ones to really save the night
musically in the main room. So I started rocking out
to br and the next thing I know it is hotter then shit
and the room no longer has space to dance. sheesh
forget it. I went home pretty much disappointed

FAMILY

Venue - A+

Organization - C+ (for putting BR in the small room)

sound - A+ (clean and full)

Vibe - B+ (get enough people and they will vibe off
polka music)

Music - C- (very disappointing night. Only BR and
that bald guy made it)
