Wow!
I had no idea....that really must have been a let-down.
Pauses between tracks!?!?!?!?...unreal...
I am not sure if that was discussed here on his last visit, but that
really does blow.
James is a great DJ...I have been lucky enough to catch some of his sets
both here in LA and elsewhere.
Hopefully, he will throw down live....only one way to find out for sure
though,

Let me just preface this by saying that I've seen James Curd play out
before, and he's a really good DJ, when he's DJing. He didn't have the
iPod as part of his set. The iPod was his set. 'Track begins, track
plays, track ends. Select new song. Repeat.'
I don't have a problem with using multiple formats. I think Final
Scratch and Scratch Live are really cool and innovative inventions.
MP3, CD, Vinyl, hell...throw in some tape loops, I don't care, as long
as it makes me want to dance. And the pause between songs as the iPod
buffered killed any intentions I had to dance. I felt like I was
sitting in front of a stereo. I just take offense to the fact that he
couldn't just lay down a set. It makes me wonder why he even had to be
there, he could have just shuffled the tracks and left his iPod up there
while he dicked around, got a drink, whatever.
It was the equivalent of being at someone's house and having them say,
"Hey, I have a track you should listen to. <plays song> Wow, wasn't that
cool...here's another. <searches through list of songs, plays song>
This really shows off how good of a DJ I am." I don't go out just to
hear a good song selection...if I want that, I'll stay at home in front
of iTunes and save myself some money on beer.
