I'm mostly a vinyl guy, but just to play devils advocate, I seem to
remember that "CD" does stand for "Compact DISK".
Ultimately, I think it's the result (people dancing) that matters most.
I think that eventually, DJ cd players etc. will have the same effect
that software synths had on music production - it will lower the bar a
bit in terms of some of the costs of getting started, but ultimately,
it's still just as hard (or harder) to be a good DJ.
One interesting effect I think we'll see is that as the cost of playing
unreleased tracks continues to drop (because of CDs), and as there are
more and more producers / producer wannabes out there, track selection
and programming will become even more important.
