Hey guys -
It wasnt me who posted the 'Join the Opposition' thread!!
But since my name keeps popping up in this discussion, here's my 2
cents..

As a graffitti artist in the late 80's, I listened to Hip hop since its
early days. As far back as I can remember, the lyrics were mainly
about hungry hustlers, making their way 'by any means necessary' in
whatever street culture they hailed from. People attempt to
romanticize Hip Hop's roots, as they are likely to do with any scene.

Some of these artists survived long enough to make some bread, some of
them even 'got rich or died tryin'. So they rap about that now. Thats
cool for them. Some people live vicariously through these street corner
superhero tales. I agree that the bling bling stuff gets boring to
listen to after awhile.

At the end of the day, its all just fantasy. We dont really know if
what theyre rapping about is fact or just ghetto fairy tales.
it all comes down to the beats.

Just to remind you what this thread was about in the first place:
J-splat
posted an invitation to join the OPPOSITION in which he claimed a
unity of
purpose and message between House and Hip Hop. I respectfully
responded by
stating an opinion that the messages from the two are currently
incompatible.
THAT'S IT. J-Splat and I disagree and had a good respectful debate
about it.
Aaron likewise disagreed with me, and we had a good respectful debate
about
it. And Will stated his fundamental disagreement with me as well
(even
though he said he didn't really care) and I simply read his
disagreement, left
it
at that and didn't even respond.

Why then do I have to endure personal pot shots from people who don't
know
me about my living a so-called double standard? It's mildly annoying,
honestly.
