Whoa.

So last night I indulged hardcore.

Yes, this may be a house music distribution list, but music is music,
so here I go.

I'm sure many of you may have heard the new single recently released
here in our United States by M.I.A., a Sri Lankan transplant into
Brittain who is just coming upon the American hip-hop/reggae/jungle
world. Her single, entitled "Galang," is trickling onto radio
airwaves and mainstream club playlists. You may have heard, "Razor
blades... galangalangalang. Purple haze... galangalangalang."

Last night, I was fortunate enough to procure a ticket to attend her
showcase at the Knitting Factory, no doubt a precursor of many
performances to come (she is also slated to be a sub-headliner of this
year's Coachella).

Let me just say, this bitch is AWESOME.

She makes her own clothes... including a lovely outfit she was wearing
last night featuring two different yellows that were just barely
different (would have looked like shit on your white trash aunt, but
on M.I.A.... um, darling, maybe?... no, HOT) She has a killer DJ who
follows her around and throws in the beats that she sings/raps to. And
she's bringing the sounds of jungle to the world of marketable
mainstream hiphop. She looks 17, but is actually 28-- and she somehow
made it how? How fucking unlikely. How fucking amazing.

A notable lyric, "I can get squeaky so... You can come right on me."

She has songs about drugs, songs about the rebel lands in Sri Lanka
(where her family hails from), and one particularly amazing song which
was her encore about the worldwide war status calling out to George
Bush by name.

If you haven't checked out her full album, you should do so. There are
sample copies circulating around, and the full retail version debuts
in the United States in a few weeks. If you've only heard Galang,
regardless of what you thought, make sure you give her a hear-- the
rest of her songs are an amazing contrast. You can see her newest
video to Sunshowers on iTunes right now, even.

Ahhhh! I can't stop thinking about her!

I think I found someone stalking-worthy. (tip toes)
