Presented by CORE Concepts and NextAid In association with TIMBUKTU and
Universal Rhythm Los Angeles, CA - Thursday, June 16th is the official
South African Youth Day also known as The Day of the African Child. DREAM 3
will honor this day in its 3rd DREAM event, the first of which was held for
MLK Jr. Day in 2003. DREAM is always a meaningful event, which brings
together the diverse communities of Southern California with the support and
participation from some of Los Angeles top artists and organizations. The
music is eclectic, with trip-hop, hip-hop, house, afrobeat, r&b, soul,
Brazilian, and spoken word. DREAM 3 takes place in all 3 rooms at the
beautiful Zen Sushi Restaurant and Club, 2609 Hyperion Avenue, in LAs
trendy Silver Lake neighborhood from 9pm 2am. 18 + over are welcome for a
$10 minimum donation. DREAM 3 was created to honor the victims of the
Soweto Uprisings, the 1976 South African tragedy. 20,000 school children
assembled on the morning of June 16th to peacefully protest a decree by the
South African government's Department of Bantu Education that Afrikaans had
to be used as one of the languages of instruction in secondary schools.
After a week of violence, 176 people were killed and more than a
thousand were injured. Proceeds from the DREAM 3 will benefit children in
LA and Africa creating global and cross-generational solidarity. The list
of talent covers everything from live music, to DJs and slam poets. Artists
include Afrobeat Down, LAs premier 10 piece Afrobeat ensemble, The Urban
Space Sound System featuring Gina Rene (Soulstice) and Kentyah, BOKU, and an
