HA HA HA - Ok kids, its great to hear a new generation interested in the sound that pretty
much got LA up to its knees in the 90s. First off, that ACID sound that most people talk
about comes from a little known device called the ROLAND 303 and like the ROLAND 909 it
has been used in more house/techno tracks than there is sand at the beach. DJs like STEVE
LORIA, BARRY WEAVER, DJ TRANCE (that guy everyone calls Jason Blakemore now), and even
DOC MARTIN, FESTER, OSCURE (back in the day), and the list goes on...these guys made the
early 90s a wonderful time for Acid House in LA. But for the most part we didn't call it ACID
house. ACID was the stuff we were dropping around 10pm and it would last until 7am
(Ahhh). The music was HOUSE or TECHNO and no one could tell the difference. In fact, no
one cared because it didn't matter. We were one community and one vibe. F.A.M.I.L.Y.
(Friends And Music I Love You) parties were a perfect example how LA kept it locked down in
the underground. Sub genres came in the later part of the 90s with D&B and Trance making
the music steer away from what we had been enjoying for almost 10 years. Then it became
to much so DEEP House came back strong in 2000 as a way to make everyone just chill the
f*ck out. But NOW it seems that we are back at were LA is best at. High energy House/
Techno beats with good funk and a little doze of that Roland 303. So what's next? Speaker
hugging??

Good job LA. Keep it coming!!

George
