CONGRATULATIONS TROPICAL!

On that note, I wanted to share a short anecdote about my first Tropical Party. This anecdote has no climax or gradiose, tear-jerking ending; but merely tidbits of what I remember from five years ago.

It was September or October of 2000 (perhaps an anniversary party?), and I was a wide-eyed bushy-tailed, wee tike of 19 years starting my second year of college and rockin' my older sister's ID for parties and such. My friend Angie knew of this party in a downtown warehouse, the setup of which reminded me of a "bowl" with tons of red carpet and stairs (can someone tell me what venue this was?). All the notorious Tropical items were in place including, but not limited to hanging pineapples, spray bottles in little plastic baskets and, of course, wristbands laced with purdy lil palm trees. Most importantly, fruity tropical vibes. The second floor of the venue housed these fairy-like angels that were giving away massages! The second floor balcony was strung with lights that had colorful little parrots on them. Talk about attention to detail! In my VERY blurry state, I stole one of the little parrot bulb coverings thinking I was going to go home and magically make a smoking pipe
 out of
it. (Way to go helen. Sorry, Ben) It was one of those parties where you leave thinking "Whew! Good party!" panting and sweating.

For whatever reason I didn't end up going to another Tropical Party for four years, but has already gone down in my books a some of the best parties in LA in its own right. It's all about keepin' it old school with extra fruity vibes.

Thank you, Tropical!
