[Dynagroove] The real story of Thanksgiving

This is what I will be telling my son about Thanksgiving:
"Years ago, the Turkey Dance was the most popular dance at weddings. This
remained true until November 24, 1988 when the Turkeys suddenly and without
warning quit en masse. (This unexpected defection led to the ascention of the
massively annoying Chicken Dance...but that's another bedtime story). The
extraordinary exodus was initiated by a small group of wild turkeys, calling
themselves the Pecking Tribe. The Tribe rebelled against the artificial
limitation of having to perform the same song and dance over and over and only at
human weddings. That year, in an act of supreme defiance, they conceived
of, and prepared for, a large feast of a party out in the desert, something no
one had ever thought possible before, and a strange but wonderful dance
music called HOUSE was on the menu! They then sent out the now famed universal
call of Hen-hood "come one come all...and BYOB!!". The legendary GOBBLE @ THE
MOON parties were thus born. The gathering was truly MASSIVE. Turkeys of
all walks of life marvelled at the intoxicating sense of communal belonging
they felt at these yearly gathering of fowl. But most of all it was the music
that astounded the exquisitely rotund birds. Turkeys all around the world
took to HOUSE music like a baby to a mother's breast. Humanoid in its origin,
house music was played on vinyl. It was thus perfectly suited for expert
manipulation by the peckers' feathery handles. The scene later exploded and the
rest is now, as they say, history. Numerous legends of the decks owe their
present fame and fortune to their turns at the Gobble @ The Moon decks
including DJ Drumstix, MC Jive, Free Range, Grand Master Flashy Fowl and of
course, Zack Hill (tehehehe...i love ya buddy, just kidding of course). And now,
thanks to the brave and courageous Turkey bird, we humans have rediscovered
that House music is a spiritual thing, a body thing, a soul thing.
House music being a human invention, of origin not exactly known and still
debated (some say it's an Italian composer who wrote a sexy dance song for an
African American diva while others claim it was all invented by 4 very weird
German dudes), it was only a matter of time before the human race took over
the scene. And because these parties lasted late into the night and the early
morning, people got hungry. So they caught, killed, cooked and ate the poor
Turkeys to satisfy their hunger, and all trace and evidence of the Gobble @
The Moon parties were erased in no time. But like a hidden force that could
not be deterred, every year since then, people continued to gather around on
Nov. 24 to eat Turkey and give thanks. But they did not know exactly for
what, and they were scared. So, history had to be re-written and some story
about Indians and Pilgrims was cooked up to make people feel better about the
Thanksgiving Holiday. The story is SO unbelievable I won't even consider
telling it to you.
But you and I know better, my son. Every year, on Thanksgiving, what we're
really doing is thanking the Turkeys for that fateful day when they walked
out on weddings all around the country, and for the special gift of
re-discovering House Music. And after eating the delicious bird, and after oh about 3
hour of napping, maybe some football watching on the telly (not likely), we
get up and head down to the local disco to dance, sometimes with our thumbs in
our armpits...flapping the night away to the wonderfully repetitive House
Beats..."
What do you all think? You think he'll buy it? =)
Moral of the story: There is no work Friday. Go out and celebrate!
Tonight @ The Blend with Morgan Page would be a good start. Tomorrow, after the
holiday dinner, the Good Life is postponed. Yet, you have other great options
too, like Dirty Dishes w/Justin Martin, Sammy D and Nikola Baytala OR the
BRICK Thursdays, a weekly night by the "gravy" joes (how appropriate for
thanksgiving, no?). Have an awesome Thanksgiving everyone. Take care
