sleep? that wasn't able to fit into our schedule really.. that was a really
long weekend.. got there friday morning after a long bus ride from Hollywood
on which we met a couple Nieces of Tony Largo, hung out with them at the Del
Taco on market, and at the Embarcadero Square, and randomly set up camp on
sidewalks.. hmm maybe next time we won't buy tickets that get us there at 5
am none of my friends are up at that hour.. oh well moving on later that
night was hectic, had a radio spot on 89.9 in Hayward at 9 then had to rush
back to SF to meet Clare Large at her gig at 111 Mina.. barely made it,
whew.
and then there's Saturday, what can I say about Saturday other than wow. I
couldn't believe they opened up the Civic Center this year for the parade.
How often do walk by a naked guy smoking a joint with an open beer in your
hand right there on the steps of city hall without being even questioned by
the police? we got there and Bobby Valentine was on the decks at the Stompy
float, first place we went! saw lots of LA people but missed a few of you,
wobs, juju.. well hidden by the 50 billion people there. I noticed a lot
more house and housey techno being played all over this year, that was good.
and yeah lots of cd players, it's pretty much necissary if you look at how
much those floats wobble..
we had to go a little early around 7, as I was playing somewhere else that
night and had to go get my records.. stopped by Fat Slice (a must) and a
local liquor store to get some New Belgium Brewing Co. beer (that I just
can't get down here, anyone know a spot?)
this trip pretty much settled it, we're moving back to SF next year. not
that LA isn't great, cause it is, but I'm homesick..

dope.
marcus and i got in fri evening. went to a quaint little spot with the
dirty bird fellas (justin martin, sammy d, claude von stroke, young chris
martin and some other dude) and then went home to get some sleep before
saturday. woke up at 10 sumthin, fucked around on haight then went record
shopping at tweekin'. then about 6 we showed up at the love parade where it
stopped (for those who don't know the parade marched down the street and
then they planted at city hall with all the floats surrounding a large
common area.). we hung out at the stompy float only to realize sound guys
are all the same. (maybe since the speakers are off you should check those
things that power them first. i.e. the amps instead spending 5 minutes
looking at the mixer). went around to various other floats and stopped at
the om float. missed justin martin but some other guys were playing and
then nikola went on and reminded them that people were there to dance. we
left at 9 had some 'naan and chutney' and then headed to dna lounge to hear
that lineup (fred everything, jt and lance, hipp-e, rithma, andrew kelsey).
we were there til about 1 and then the underground itch came and we bailed
out to love grenade (jeno, garth, m3, spun, phil smart, the baroness, solar,
etc). it was great to be there even the parking guy was hella cool. the
dance floor wasn't tho. in fact it was hot as shit. perfect. sweat
through everything i was wearing. stayed until the wee hours mostly
upstairs where it was a little funkier. took a 5 hour nap. then we tried to
go record shopping and the store we went to was closed so we walked down to
'the end up'. (john tejada, terry francis, justin long, fred everywhere, the
baroness, etc) everyone told us it'd be full of crack heads, psssh as if
the whole scene isn't full of em. but anyway we walked in about 2pm and
left at like 5:30 tshirts drenched through and through.
overall the people were hella cool (note: girls just be yourself, the
ladies up there, although not always as polished as LA girls, exude a
certain confidence and style that makes em just hot. and the trannies up
there are so well done they may trick ya.). everyone helped us with
directions and what not and we had an overall great time that will inspire
us musically for hot minute i'm sure.
john tejada almost made my head explode. genreless. i repeat GENRELESS
house set. tech, deep, electro etc. all basses were covered. not just
techno. i can't say that i even reaaaally like techno. BUT, i like techno.
it has become alot more funky the past couple years so now i love it and i
play some and househeads don't know the difference. well some do, but they
love it too.
it's come full circle people. the music is comfortably under one roof
again. thank jack.
peace,
benny
ps i saw some LA heads at the parade and then i didn't see em again. if yer
gonna go then GO. sleep is for the weak. sleep is for the week i say. the
undergound and the end up. hot shit! dope records!
