We got there around 1:30, a bit later than anticipated, parked and
actually walked across the street to the odd number side and was
looking for the party for about 15 minutes with no luck. We finally
re-listened to the message and managed to finally find the
"alleyway". Proceeded to walk downstairs and we could feel the heat
and musk shift up about 10 degrees. In my opinion, it's not
underground unless it's dark, hot, and sweaty. Great little
underground venue- nice size dance floor, good sound, quick and easy
access to the bathrooms, and hardly ever a wait a the bar. I might
add that the drinks were VERY reasonably priced and the bartenders
were great, serving drinks with a smile each time.
The vibe in the place was great-- it was great to see all the heads
I've met throughout the last few years and a few new ones-- everyone
was very friendly.
As for the music, Olivier was playing his typical chunky, jackin
house with lots of oldies and classics thrown in for good measure.
To be completely honest, his set was a bit predictable until the last
30-40 minutes when he picked it up and got me vibin.. seemed like he
was taking more chances and the beats got a bit dirtier-- some of it
may be the fact that I shop at Primal and have a majority of his
records but in any case his set was solid. We were about to take
off, but Mikey Tello got on and picked it up a few notches and
proceeded to drop some science for the next couple of hours. My
buddy looked at me and said go get another beer, that turned into 4-5
more until the end of the night- he had me locked on the floor. I
have to say, I was very impressed-- that guy has great selection and
programming/timing was spot on.
Overall, one of the better underground parties I've been to in a
while. I was disappointed I wasn't able to get there early to hear
Joeshua, Bobby, and Cade, who I also heard threw down great sets. My
only suggestion for next time is to get a few big fans as it was a
bit too hot. Props to the MAUF crew for putting this on! Can't wait
for the next one.
