Interesting topic! In my opinion, the unfortunate thing about being a local
is that no matter how good you are, you are still just that - a local. And
sometimes the more you play, the worse off you are. I've not been booked
before because "I play out too much" which presents an interesting dilemma.
And also, people assume you are just going to be as good (or bad) as you
were the time before and they don't always really LISTEN to you. They also
assume they can see you any time. That being said, there is a ridiculous
amount of love and respect for a lot of the local DJ's in LA, yourself
included Cade! Regardless of whether or not people are dancing. A lot of
times, it just depends on the party you are playing at and the moods people
are in.
As for the CD situation, my solution is to just not put any out at all and
then they all want to see you play out ;)
