[Dynagroove] my opinion about Future Ape, and the LA underground scene...

Hey All!

I haven't ever posted on Dynagroove before so some of you might not
recognize my email. I've been keeping up on what's going on thru the list
and I know a lot of people from going out. My name's divaDanielle. I am a
local DJ as well-will be playing at Future Ape, totally excited.

I wanted to respond to this. I am also really involved with the local LA
Burning Man regional groups. It's a different scene but when we do parties
we always strive to get to 3 room warehouses. Sometimes it doesn't work out
but we have been pretty successful. I think for these exact reasons-we are
able to bring in outside djs while also always featuring our local talent.
Also, it gives us a chance to have lots of different music-usually a house
room, a breaks room and a chill out space. Last year, we were lucky enough
to take over an artist loft building that was about to be demolished. We had
7 rooms of music-each with a different style, run by different crews.

I have often asked how people find these places. Usually it's all about
putting the word out and of course connecting with the right people. Now
people call us and let us know of spaces they've found. It's always worth
driving around and calling numbers on buildings and just checking. You never
know. You can find places big enough, rent for about $2000 down and make all
of your money back plus more.

Having all the different types of music as well as keeping the local DJs
really creates a sense of community. That's the wonderful thing about SF-the
whole city seems to be a community and all of the different DJs crews seem
to be supportive of one another as well as working together to throw
successful events. Maybe we're just too spread out here?!?! I don't know.

Anyhoo, it's great to have an event like Future Ape really pulling in a lot
of locals. I think LA has so much talent that is can and should be done more
often. If I can be of any help finding local spaces that fit these needs, I
am down to at least pass along some information...So yeah, I think that
Jason's formula is right on!
