Ill be quick cuz im super busy right now.
House is far from dead as a matter of fact it is on the rise. Dance music is
the number 1 selling form of eletronic music today. Vinyl pressing is still
a some odd billion dollar a year industry for Dance/house music alone. With
MP3 WAV Myspace ringtones etc there is barrage of music and it is more
easily marketed and exposed to a wanting GROWING market. Just because in
your town people at the club "you" go to want to hear top 40 doesn't mean
that house is dead in LA SF CHI NY Miami UK Germany etc it doesn't seem too
dead to me at all. Look at Fabric or Canvas look at the super clubs in
miami. Trying telling the heads at Defected or Om that house is dead. As a
matter of fact try saying that to me. I recently launched a vinyl store
selling only house music and that's going so fantastically we decided to
make it a label. Wouldn't be a very good business move is house was "dead"
My suggestion just look at your friends smile and say "Sure Buddy" ;)

A few hours ago, I became engaged in a long discussion with a friend about
where house music is right now, and it all began on him stating
"as Nas said, "House is dead""
I grew up in NorCal and moved to LA over 5 years ago, and know that the
Dynagroove list is probably the strongest in LA (in terms of discussions and
contributers) and I want to hear what the people of LA have to say in
response to his arguements. I'll post my comments seperately, as if I did
so here I may be "getting the last word."
These are his statements that were gathered from the archived instant
message conversation earlier today...
-there are a few keepin it alive, mostly NY heads
-i say its dead cause it's lost it's ingenuity, what's popular now? electro.
which is really remixes of 80's hits. or remixes of pop songs or r and b
songs. -farina is not headlining anymore, people like kaskade are who do so
many r n b remixes -and kaskade does remixes and stuff, i mean farina is
trying something new and he's paying for it. the house scene is not letting
him and others innovate -they are propping people up like kaskade who do r n
b remixes -house has always been mainstream. and i mean that it's accessible
to anyone... it's not all hardcore like the goth scene where it's hard to
get in -i know saying house is dead is a harsh statement, but i'm saying
that there are a few people that are helping it evolve, MANY MORE who just
remix old songs, who just tweak the song a little bit, so house may not be
completely dead, but it's not healthy -its not as creative at some other
forms of electronic music currently, and maybe cause producers understand
that it has to be club friendly -by dead, i mean stagnant. with computer
programs becoming so much cheaper, people are using the same loops, hooks,
bass tones -the people i see pushing house, step add to house, maybe using
real instruments, instead of making a "track," they make a song, with melody
-when thousands are using the same programs, it gets stagnant -i'm not
dissing those people, cause they are part of the music revolution, but
sadly, people dont utilize their tool to the fullest and grab sounds from
everywhere, yes, samples, but some noises to make the track
-with the Mp3, house DJ"s are gettin LAZY!!!
-sadly, i saw DIz so much on his cell phone behind the decks. that's the
difference between a super star DJ and a local, it's not okay that he's on
his celly, DJ Dan would never do that he's too busy tweaking the record,
doin ish. -i want a DJ, not just a person puttin on records -most house is
club music, if it's staying to its roots -house is popular to "clubbers,"
people who dont love house but love the clubs or even dancers who dont love
house but love teh circles. -[house] is popular with clubbers, who demand
those cross over hits, and r n b remixes and that helps house die
